what's even the point of getting the degree if you're not going to engage with the work!?

Honestly this latest thing has pushed my friend group to start looking into setting up a private @stoat.chat instance. It looks pretty straightforward to run if you're a Computer Toucher.

Emerging from his viewing of the UNRELEASED Epstein case files at Justice Dept, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) says:

"The Dept of Justice has been in a cover-up mode for months... trying to sweep the entire thing under the rug"

I do that but with the "Beef McLargehuge" bit from Space Mutany.

My rent went up by 10-15% every year until they put in a half-dozen new apartment buildings on the (newly upzoned) block; the new luxury units helped keep the existing stock cheap.

I think it is important to provide protection from unexpected fees, but I'd also like to say that lowering barriers to new housing is an excellent way to keep rent affordable.

gatorade is owned by pepsico but it's the coca cola of the sports drink market. powerade in turn is owned by coca cola, but it's unquestionably the pepsi of sports drinks. this should be plainly obvious to all

yes, correct

All of the wealthy neighborhoods around here have narrow streets and a roundabout at every intersection, which physically prevents you from usefully speeding. A good design!

All of the apartment buildings are built on major arterials where people do 40. 😑

My doctor made me quit drinking caffeine a few years ago and:

A) It sucks, withdrawls last for months and are physically uncomfortable.

B) I legitimately feel better almost all the time; caffeine just makes you tired when you don't have it & feel "normal" when you do.

lmao sorry that you're getting a thousand people in the replies telling you that you developed your completely free app incorrectly, and they won't be gracing your (again, completely free) app with their presence.

the two basic options are stoat (explicitly designed to be a discord clone) and matrix (a general chat app)

neither one has all the bells and whistles of discord. matrix is more mature but it's also a very big program with tons of options since it's for general use, whereas stoat is more narrow

So eventually the LLM gets to a point where it thinks, "There is enough set-up between the AI customer service agent & the human customer in this story, time to introduce some JUICY PLOT."

AIs *ALWAYS* go insane in stories. Why else would you have an AI character?
February 9, 2026 at 6:48 PM
My personal theory is that OpenAI tricks the LLM into generating text that looks like an interaction by formatting it as a script & asking it to generate additional story.

And every script in the training corpus eventually has dramatic conflict (because that's what makes for a good story.)
February 9, 2026 at 6:48 PM
These AIs literally cannot meaningfully change in response to things that you tell them. The closest that they get is re-prompting themselves with your prior chat logs, and if you give them too many, they suffer from something called "context collapse" where they go insane.

Is there a half decent self-hosted alternative? My smallish friend group basically just uses a server with 5 channels to organize D&D campaigns and quarantine politics talk.

Am I going to have to make this myself?
