Happy #NewYear! 🥳

I've seen others doing an #intropost for the new year so thought I would as well.

📚 I write books about real historical women who lived in #Somerset or #SouthAmerica.

🇬🇧 I live in Somerset, England with my husband, a guide dog, 2 step kids and twin bio kids.

✨ Happy St Elfleda’s Day! ✨
2 miracles are associated with this 10th-C saint: 1️⃣ When a king visited Elfleda and she had no drinks for his men, she prayed and turned water into mead so everyone could have a drink! 2️⃣ For her second miracle, check out Unsung Women in Somerset or On This Day in Somerset
📻 I was on BBC Somerset again today talking about On This Day in Somerset.

We chatted about a witch, a pilot and all sorts!

If you want to give it a listen, I come on around the 2:16 mark.

Today is 2nd October and it was on this day in 1850 that Sarah Biffin died in Liverpool.

🎨 🖌️ Mouth and Foot Painting Artists states she was “the first recorded British mouth-painter”.

Sarah features in Unsung Women in Somerset as well as On This Day in Somerset. linktr.ee/helenpugh

I'm looking ahead to what book I should write after On This Day in Somerset.

Should it be an almanac calendar of...?

women in rural England

Or

women in Bristol and Bath
The Bank of England will redesign our nation's #banknotes & has invited the public to suggest what could feature on them.

I've just posted to Medium my suggestions for #women with a connection to #Somerset. Link below.

#qotd Who do you think deserves to be on a banknote in your country?
Happy St Ealswitha's Day!

Ealswitha (or Elswith or Ealhswith) was Queen of Wessex as the wife of Alfred the Great.

One of her links to Somerset is spending part of 878 AD hiding at Athelney from the Vikings.

Today is St Elfleda's Day, a saint connected to Glastonbury. (It's sometimes given as 23rd Oct instead.)
She features in Unsung Women in Somerset as well as my upcoming book, On This Day in Somerset.
