Early days of making sourdough starter. I heard you can put your starter outside to catch wild yeasts. Thought I’d try to capture some #Californianativeplants energy from my garden. Turn on sound to hear names of the plants.

Chaparral yucca (Hesperoyucca whipplei). I’m loving everything about this photo, especially how the sky brings out the blue of the spiky leaves. Reservoir Canyon, San Luis Obispo.

White-Tailed Kite hunting over coastal scrub and oaks just after sunset. There are usually several out there. This one seems extra fluttery. Is that a seasonal behavior?

Today was a day for native plants with maroon flowers. I found my way back to a wonderful group of Paeonia californica, California Peony. Stunning and lush during the Spring on dry slopes.

Nature sketch walk yesterday with group of sketchers. The ceanothus smells heavenly. Lots of European bees. The native bees don’t seem to be out yet. Watercolor pencil and pen. I threw in some words that came to me.

I was very lucky to find this. Each guttation droplet has its own little vortex. Some mushrooms can create their own thermals that actively eject the spores. The drops have captured this process.
