I truly don’t know how people can possibly think it’s right to deprive people of food right before the holidays. (Or any time of year for that matter.) #SNAP

After voting to give billionaires tax breaks and making health care more expensive, Derrick Van Orden has refused to hold a town hall to talk to the voters he works for in a face-to-face conversation. So, I'm heading to Wisconsin to help give the people he's supposed to represent a voice.
Pete Buttigieg to campaign against Derrick Van Orden in La Crosse
Buttigieg, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020, is characterizing the event as a response to the Trump administration's policies.

So sad that we live in a country currently where the rich are so completely out of touch. This is probably one of the biggest examples of “let them eat cake” I’ve ever seen. It’s shameful.

Our nation was forever changed on 9/11. Today we remember the thousands of lives lost & first responders' heroic actions.

Their selfless acts of sacrifice show the very best of us as a nation.

Pride should be a celebration not something to view with trepidation. This means showing up in spite of fear and being ourselves anyway. We cannot let them win. #pride2025

Mohsen Mahdawi was released on bail today from his illegal detention at the hands of the Trump administration. Good.

In America, you are not supposed to end up in a jail cell for expressing your opinion.

This is a major step forward in the fight against authoritarianism.

I shouldn’t have to live in a world where I’m scared about my future. I shouldn’t have to worry that my dream job (professor) might be something state and federal government leaders decide I’m not “fit” for because of who I am and what I’m passionate about wanting to teach.

Lesbian visibility week is about being proud of who you are in spite of the people who have made you feel like you shouldn’t be. It’s about loving yourself as a woman who loves women. Lesbian is NOT a dirty word. #lesbianvisibilityday2025

Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, let’s steal some of their policies.

In Denmark:

- Health care and college are free.

- The starting wage is $22/hr.

- Paid parental leave is 1 year.

- Paid vacation is 6 weeks.

- All workers get pensions.

I do not think in the year 2025 that we should continue to accept a reality which sees women paid just $0.75 for every $1 men are paid for doing the same job.

If we want to achieve economic justice in this country — that means equal pay for equal work.

Here’s a photo of the bookshop at rest before we open for the day, and a reminder that shopping for books in a New York drizzle is one of the city’s great pleasures.

This year, one of my biggest goals is to embrace being my truest self. I want to take risks and do things I haven’t before. I want to become the person I want to be who I was too scared to fully embody before. I want to do things so I can look back on my life and be proud of myself. 🩷

Good news from Colorado: A U.S. District Judge ordered a school district to restore library books they banned by next week, prohibiting the district from further restrictions on access to books that the school board objects to politically.

This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office.
2) Elected officials rewrite the rules in the donors' favor.
3) Donors make a huge profit.
4) Repeat.

For the sake of democracy, we must get Big Money out of politics.

It’s really sad to me that the last time I actually truly had hope and believed we had a politician running for president who gave a shit about people and could have helped us, was when Bernie Sanders ran. I never got to vote for him, but I’ll always wish I had been able to.

STRESS KILLS.

60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, struggling every day to keep their families going.

The result: working class people die 7 years earlier than the rich.

We need an economy that works for all, not just the few.
