Grew up in New Mexico. Attended NMSU. After college moved to Utah and Idaho. Ended up in Pittsburgh 20 years ago and am almost a yinzer now. What a long strange trip it’s been.
It’s Black Friday. Be nice when you’re out amongst the crowds because Santa is watching and….

Woke up this morning to read lots of posts of people who have been up since 3 or 4 am to cook and who are already tired from doing cooking more and baking for two days already and I can’t help but think, “People, I think we’re doing Thanksgiving wrong”.

Went out this afternoon to pick up some take out. While sitting outside for my order to be ready my thoughts were that with temperatures what they were, I should have worn long pants and shoes instead of shorts and flip flops. Yup. Autumn has reached the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

@espn.com why do you give us a choice to set a default tab if you keep defaulting the app to the “Home” Tab. Fix the app. Maybe you can use some of the money you’re going to get from the rate increase to do this.

I wish when an app says they updated for “bug fixes and performance improvements” they’d give us a hint as to what they did because the vast majority of the time I I see the same bugs and can’t see any performance improvements.

Having a successful potted geranium year. No idea what I did differently, but I appreciate the color they add to my front steps.

Simple things parents could do to make things better:
1. Teach their children not to throw trash in the street when walking home from an event.
2. Use deodorant. If you think they’re too young, they are not.
3. If you have sons prevent them from using Axe Body Spray.
Easy-peasy.

Holiday weekend starts tomorrow. Bought a watermelon for it. There are lots of criteria people use to pick a watermelon. The one I use is “that one looks like it will fit in my fridge”. Hope it’s tasty.

So far, so good with the geranium pots and the lilies.

@triblive.bsky.social Got a question for you. In your online and I guess your print editions, you have two pages of comics, one in color and one in black and white. There is much overlap. But on the days when you only have one page why not pick the comic in color?

Every time I turn on AppleTv I have to watch a trailer for their F1 movie. Nothing has ever made want to watch a movie less. @f1tv.bsky.social

I wish instead of promising all kinds of new stuff that may or (or more than likely) will not work, Apples new operating systems would just make the stuff they already have work reliably.
June 14, 2025 at 4:34 PM
Luckily for me the fact that Apple puts the trailer for their F1 movie on before every one of their programs has resulted in me wanting to never see the movie. Money saved. @f1tv.bsky.social

@governor.pa.gov I wish you’d educate the politicians in this state that when we get texts with links in them from numbers we don’t recognize we’re told to ignore them. Personally, I block and report them as they’re likely scammers. Do politicians not read news or are they just scammers or both?

Well, it’s raining in Pittsburgh again. But I have to say that one of the benefits of being retired is if it rains one day, I can generally shift my plans to the next day.

Yet another cloudburst in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. You’d think the Three Rivers Art Festival was going on or something.

It would be epic if after all this time, and after they finally reached agreement on a contract, Aaron Rodgers failed his physical with the Steelers. Also, I still think the Steelers signing Rodgers is their way of tanking without having to actually say the words out loud. @triblive.bsky.social

Peonies are blooming at my house!

Visited the Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh this week. Lots of school trips happening this time of year as evidenced by the combined clouds of B.O. and Axe Body Spray filling the halls. Parents, please do us all a favor. Introduce your children to deodorant. This ends my Ted Talk.

I’ve been watching the TV show “Suits” lately, which is pretty much just like “Sons of Anarchy” only the men wear suits and don’t have motorcycles.

I guess politicians and political parties don’t get the same warnings about clicking on links in unsolicited texts to minimize the amount of your personal information scam artists can get because they send me lots of unsolicited texts with links in them…oh I get it now.

Pittsburgh Magazine published an article with pictures showing what Star Wars would look like in Pittsburgh. Sounds farfetched, but then as we all know:

Some excitement at my house today. I was in the sun room, reading when there was a bang and all the birds, squirrels and chipmunks scattered. A hawk dove in on the hunt. Unsuccessful first strike, but it hung around for a while. Eventually it gave up and left. No one got caught and eaten today.

Saw this news story in my AP News app. Made me wonder why they felt they had to point out the letter was written before the ship sank. Either the AP needs to do better or people are just dumber and I’m afraid that it might be both. @apnews.com

So the same politicians and organizations that tell me to be careful and not trust links sent to me in unsolicited texts, send me unsolicited texts crammed with links when election time comes around. Good thing I can always block and report.
