"Communities hosting military bases are sites of high levels of physical/sexual violence. Whether in the Philippines, Okinawa, Puerto Rico, or Hawai‘i...an almost inevitable consequence of hosting a military base is an increase in the number of rapes and other crimes."

"...the US treated these islands (Micronesia) as areas of strategic denial, sites for military bases, and sacrifice zones for nuclear weapons testing. The US blocked attempts for formal sovereignty... by disallowing any foreign direct investment for 3 decades."

"It is inaccurate to state that there is an urgent need for a robust US military presence in the Western Pacific to counter an imminent, articulated Chinese threat, because that threat appears to emanate more from actors in Washington than it does from Beijing."

"As is common in military strategy, he (MacArthur) makes no accounting for the toll that military emplacement in the Pacific imposed on the Pacific; no mention of the Pacific being held at risk of attack because of its role in facilitating US warfighting in Asia..."

"In the Pacific we find stolen lands a plenty, stolen kingdoms, islands transformed into fortresses, bodies and lands poisoned through military testing and an array of colonial bodies shipped off to war."

Every white settler could be a property owner. No wonder emigration to the "New World" (newly conquered, newly enslaved) was so popular in Old Europe. No wonder life in Amerika was spoken of almost as a fable by the masses of Old Europe. Young Amerika was capitalism's real-life Disneyland.

"The establishment of a new colonial, capitalist world system was enabled by the sacrifice of the tens of millions made to work under the whip, or die alone drowned in the Atlantic, crushed in mines, or slowly perishing from the pitted skin and scarred lungs of smallpox."

"Researchers in 2022 tallied up the costs and benefits of this unequal international trade. They found that over the period 1990–2015 $10 trillion was transferred every year from the global south to the global north."
