Something I didn't get to say yesterday:
We heard over and over during the event about "human-centered" approaches to "AI". But if refusal is not on the table (at every level: individual students and teachers right up through UNESCO) then we have in fact centered the technology, not the people.

Found myself scrolling through old tweets this evening and this photo was a real nostalgia hit (ignore the date, it was around July 2020). This was my route to the "fancy" grocery store; I walked this path roughly once a week for 8 years. Yeonhui-dong was one of my favorite neighborhoods in Seoul.
The sky in Seoul (to the north, at least) is beautiful today.

Tinted car windows should be illegal. As a pedestrian it is maddening when I cannot tell whether a driver is looking in my direction and has noticed me standing there. Even as a fellow driver I find it frustrating and it seems just as dangerous.

How many times do we have to remind people: the chatbot *cannot* admit to *anything*. It *doesn't know*. When you ask it about itself, it generates its answer the same way it generates your request that it write an email. It takes what you tell it and responds in way to sound plausible.

This point is not made enough. The US has an embarrassment of riches of great colleges and universities. There are strong institutions in every state. It’s as if those places don’t count.
this obsession with a handful of high status universities is also low key an indication of elite disdain for the institutions that educate most americans who attend colleges and universities
