How can Danielle Smith claim to barely know the man at the center of the CorruptCare scandal when she's had dinner at his house, met with him multiple times, and her closest advisors include five members of his family?

In the last few weeks we've talked to nearly a thousand concerned Albertans—And we're just getting started.

We have big plans for the new year! Don't miss your chance to take part in this Urgent Conversation about YOUR public health care.

Glad it was defeated… but wow. This is just beyond comprehension. So much cruelty. For what?!
After much debate, Ward's amendment to cut a $2M increase to support implementing the housing strategy was defeated 7-8 with Couns. Ward, Johnston, Jamieson, Tyers, Chabot, Wyness and McLean voting in favour.

I own a warm home and a car and will benefit from this budget. Calgary’s most vulnerable will be challenged by this change, and it will be used as an excuse to round up our houseless population. Was a plan to get them into warm homes discussed?

Shameful.

I have no patience for misinformation. It’s incompetence.
Obviously new pipelines set us backwards and increase emissions thus, increasing our negative impact on climate change.
Following Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin's refusal to say whether or not a new pipeline would contribute to climate change yesterday, that makes two major figures in Carney's government who have been unsure about the environmental impact of a new pipeline to export oil to be burned overseas.

Doesn't make sense. All they had to do is actually negotiate. Sounds like an attempt at justification for taking away Charter Rights from Albertans for 5 years.

Well he sure said the quiet part out loud.

So responsible governments should violated Charter rights to… save money?! Speechless.
From the DM's...

UCP MLA says via email that the decision to use the notwithstanding clause was not just about getting students into classrooms...

The UCP were worried that arbitration would cost them "hundreds of millions, potentially billions".

The UCP education town hall is more disgusting than I even imagined it could be.

Scapegoating children and immigrants. For their failures.

Saying children should “earn their way into a classroom.”

Implying peace officers should be used to deal with behaviour struggles.

Not adequate funding.

🤦🏻‍♀️you can’t run a growing complex city on 0% increase in taxes that is hell bent on building roads and communities everywhere
A little hint at Ward 6 Coun. John Pantazopoulos’s amendments. He says he wants to cut the proposed 3.6% property tax increase to zero in this adjustment.

My councillor’s “team” has been just delightful to deal with on this… not. So incredibly short sighted in a housing crisis.

If we lose HAF money, anyone know if these new conversions would lose that money or are they already funded federally?
Ward 2 Coun. Jennifer Wyness has introduced an amendment to eliminate the Downtown Office Conversion Program. The move would eliminate $40M from the budget.

So many of these individuals voting to remove important things just to lower our tax increase. Like are you actually kidding me? Many kids can’t attend local schools, so they need bussing. They no longer get yellow buses in middle school. Glad it was defeated but wow.
Elimination of free transit for kids 6-12 is defeated 8-7 with just Couns Ward, Johnston, Pantazopoulos, Jamieson, Chabot, McLean and Mayor Farkas voting in favour.

So the NHS has to pay more for drugs… because of Trump?! Starmer is a disaster in every way.
United States and Britain announced a deal on Monday to secure zero tariffs on British pharmaceutical products and medical technology in return for "Britain spending more on medicines and overhauling how it values drugs".

@supriya.bsky.social here and @stevenguilbeault.bsky.social on 'Tout le monde en parle’ are right, Danielle Smith cannot be appeased, and frankly I don’t know why PM Carney is trying at the expense of climate action and Indigenous rights.
@supriya.bsky.social: "The government under Trudeau that bought a pipeline ... it didn't exactly improve relations Alberta, nor did it improve national unity. What do you think is different this time around with Mark Carney at the helm?"

Grief and loss are hard. There were a few good years where December felt like the joy was real to me. I had my people and safe place. Those people are now gone too, and despite my best efforts, I just can’t find the seasonal “joy”. I also wish people understood, some people don’t need

I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone’s number one focus would be lower taxes. And it won’t last. One year of less of an increase?
NEW: Mayor Farkas says there are currently 35 amendments coming from Calgary city council on this budget. One proposes using an additional $50M in city investment income to lower the overall property tax increase from 3.6% to 1.6%.

Confused by all the various takes on the AB-Fed MOU?
Is it good for the climate? Bad? Horrendous?
Here's a primer from the Canadian Climate Institute, who I trust.

Federal-Alberta MOU risks unravelling Canada’s climate policy
While promised improvements to industrial carbon pricing are positive and important, other aspects of Alberta-Canada MOU will undermine policy effectiveness across the country.
