Doctor of Chemical Engineering, awkward postdoc storyline phase. Left with Buddhish characteristics. Likely to be nerdsniped about a stats problem.

yeah my most out there technology and crime belief that be implemented is if we can mandate new cars have backup cameras we can mandate they have ignition interlock devices. the first time you get caught driving over the limit it gets turned on. extremely doable technological non-carceral solution.
There was a DUI diversion program (Montana? Dakota?) that required 3 a day breathalizer that was more or less a wild success. If you miss check in, you get an overnight in county. Apparently this had effects on *all cause* mortality.

My gf's dog happened to get taught that he gets two separate scoops for each meal. You can't just give him one double scoop, he will still get upset once he finishes his first one.
I thought he was a dumbass, but I purposefully pour myself a small coffee mug so I can get secondsies so...

Being wealthy means you get the benefit of the doubt on AI, vaccines, economics — people just assume you’re an expert because you're rich.

If you've been teaching in the last few years, this makes a lot of student behavior make horrifying sense.
Introduce new vocabulary to your class and they're not able to recognize words in the text.
The reason they're not following instructions is they're *guessing* what you have told them to do.

As much as I find common cause with my more radical friends I (reluctantly) oppose the hardline proposals to summarily incarcerate every ICE agent. I urge everyone to consider the centrist compromise of abolishing ICE
Veteran ICE officials @nickmiroff.bsky.social spoke with view the use of masks as an unquestionably negative development. But it’s not going away anytime soon, Miroff reports: https://theatln.tc/acMM0axK

"Figure out how we can put this on a press release" seems like the driving force behind the entire AI bubble
i have heard tell of a company telling studios to implement some form of AI in their process (doesn't matter what) so that they can tell their bosses AI is being used to make a show

The Latest Defense Against ICE: 3D-Printed Whistles
Chicagoans are making, sharing, and printing designs for whistles that can warn people when ICE is in the area. The goal is to “prevent as many people from being kidnapped as possible.”

We are literally mad about your failure to fight the real dangers.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

It also feels like when your entire experience is online, you only see content from experts *after* they have gone through the tedious process of being terrible.
It does feel bad for me to watch GMs and IMs crush 1500 elo chess players while I get regularly bodied trying to clear 1400.

Sadly, I relate. I can’t practice piano or read anymore without getting twitchy.
The unspoken question in so many posts is “how do I avoid sucking before I’m good at stuff" as if the sucking isn't integral to the process of not sucking at it.

I keep seeing students online desperate to “memorize” stats and physics. I wish primary ed made it clear that you don't upload mastery in memory, it’s from a pile of wrong answers.
The best way to learn math/physics is to get wrecked by 300 practice problems until the universe takes pity on you.
