This quote still holds.
“Find at least one moment of beauty, joy, laughter, and pleasure every day. Because fuck them.” -Andrea Ritchie
I wrote about managing overwhelm during these times and about practices that can help us regulate our emotions on our own and in our organizing groups.

Absolutely everyone I know is running on fumes. I am trying to think about small, concrete things I can do to fortify myself & those around me.

Looking at the “Do you” & “Can I” parts of my “Why I am Saying no to ‘AI’ and yes to you” zine for reminders of what those things are.

Did you know that over 1.3M active duty service members and veterans rely on SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families?

Now you know.
I put this quote on a sticky note & stuck it to my computer screen so I can read it every day. It goes well with this song I’ve started singing along to every day. Trying to work up my courage to bring my full potential into the world youtu.be/2VrYqA6ghK0?...

Apropos of frog suits, lots of talk about whether or not humor is useful for fighting authoritarians. Not only does it work, but it's a top tool. It can't be the only thing, but nothing can be the only thing. If you want to learn more, I wrote about it last year. buttondown.com/signs+wonder...

One nice thing about living in a liberal democracy rather than a police state is that you do not spend time feeling paranoid about whether the government is monitoring you, whether the people around you are agents of the state.

At Civic Hall in Union Square, a man with a gun walked onto the stage at a Wikipedia conference.

Richard Knipel, CUNY's Wikimedian-in-Residence, jumped the gunman and, with others' help, saved the day. Gift link

Love to see this from @crdjustice.bsky.social highlighting DisCrit. This work was born out of making the experiences of disabled Youth of Color-with racism, ableism & resistance-the center of my work. I am so honored to see others take it up. Thank you Center for Racial and Disability Justice‬!
DisCrit examines how racism & ableism intersect to shape systems of power that marginalize disabled people of color. It challenges “normalcy” & calls for collective action toward justice. Check out the video, one-pager, & other resources at crdjustice.org. Created by summer intern Mary Yoon. [1/13]

A massive storm that brought a record storm surge to Alaska was poorly forecast, and “this is one of the clearest possible examples to date where missing upper air soundings due to NWS constraints may have led to a degraded forecast.”
Sunday a massive storm surge event from the remnants of Typhoon Halong caused catastrophic damage in remote western Alaska. Thanks to @alaskawx.bsky.social for his help with this deep dive, including the forecast challenges in an area dealing with reduced NWS upper air soundings

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

I tried the Suez Canal crisis simulation today in US Foreign Relations and it went really well! It seems workable for a range of levels, too. diplomacy.state.gov/teacher-reso... 🗃️

This is such a powerful & depressing film. (Depressing in the sense of what we’ve lost, but it does offer some silver lining in showing resistant independent media that’s come out of the wreckage.)

Director Rick Goldsmith visited my class when this film screened on campus, & he’s awesome.
If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.
