Villains With Invasive Species Sidekick Pennywise and the red swamp crayfish are lurkers, and both tend to travel via sewers and drainage pipes. Be careful, both will pinch you, and one of them causes erosion and spreads diseases! Freddy Krueger and spotted lanternfly are fashionista partners, featuring bold red and black colors. One haunts dreams, the other will try and haunt your bedroom, vineyards and hop fields! Darth Vader and the lionfish both have pointy things that kill and strike fear across large regions. Darth has a light saber, while the lionfish has venomous spines. Both can strike silently and quickly! Nothing escapes the gaze of Sauron, just like nothing escapes kudzu. While one rules the air waves, kudzu blankets the ground and smothers everything. Are you interested in learning how to collect native seeds? What native plant species look like when they are going to seed? The Nature Conservancy, Jackson County Master Gardeners Association, and JLW CISMA are happy to announce a collaborative seed collection event. Participants will be shown what native plants going to seed look like, and assist in collecting seeds so they can be used to re-seed the Grand River Fen Preserve. Invasive Species Training Seminar Monday, September 15th, 2025 (1pm -3pm) American 1 Credit Union Event Center Tremaine Room 128 W. Ganson St. Jackson, MI 49201 Invasive species can reduce biodiversity, damage infrastructure, and hinder management activities. Dr. Shikha Singh will discuss what invasive species are and how to identify some of the new ones we are concerned about in the area. We will cover basic management methods, equipment decontamination, and environmental considerations when using pesticides. This talk is geared towards landscapers, municipal staff, volunteers, and partners interested in learning about invasive species. This event is FREE, but registration is required. It is always a good idea to walk the land that has been #flooded /disturbed to see if anything new has popped up in the coming spring. We may not be able to get rid of all the #InvasiveSpecies, but early actions can lead to #sustainable management activity.
