And there's of course no guarantee that Trump would even go along with a deal.

In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.
We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party

It really does seem like there's a decent chance that these senators screwed us because they don't want their personal Thanksgiving plans to be disrupted.
Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

I'm sympathetic to arguments about pay for federal employees but thousands of RIF'd feds & laid off contractors on the ACA Marketplace are about to get doubly fucked over. If I hadn't finally been offered a random job, my monthly premium would have shot up 981% just as unemployment ran out.
My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.
We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

The cheapest plan available to me (a Georgian) is over $1,000 a month. Healthcare is no longer an option for me. I will ration the medication I take for as long as I can and then I will wait to die.

I believe the politics of the shutdown are complex and that it’s possible to have different opinions about whether democrats should have helped end it. I do NOT believe that tonight’s events are the result of serious deliberation by a serious opposition party about that difficult question.
The status quo delivered us to this moment of fascist acceleration. As Democratic elites in Washington keep proving, they have nothing to offer but behavior that abets and fosters more of the same. Their trajectory is as fixed as the right's.

Agree. Mamdani is a powerful example of this. He did not make his support for Palestine central to his campaign, but his insistence on sticking to his core beliefs when asked to repudiate them, but also reassuring those who were fearful, actually helped demonstrate his sincerity and values.
i’d also say that the GOP’s obsession with this gives candidates an opportunity to articulate and stand up for their values. “i refuse to make anyone feel like they don’t belong in my [state/city/community]. and i want everyone to live the best life they can achieve [insert policy slogan]”
I am taking particular pleasure in the complete collapse of trans-as-unbeatable-wedge-issue narrative this morning. It might be an 80-20 issue in voters minds, but it has to be on voters minds to matter. The results in VA demonstrate that it is very much not on voters minds.
