Dear Democrats: This story is being served up on a silver platter for you to hammer all the way to next year’s midterms. “Trump let violent criminals back out onto our streets.” Don’t let this story die.
A felon whose sentence President Trump commuted in the final hours of his first term was sentenced to 27 months in prison on Monday after being accused of a range of criminal conduct — including physical and sexual assault — since Trump freed him. nyti.ms/3LSL8nC
Jonathan Braun, Felon Freed by Trump, to Be Sentenced Again in Brooklyn
A Brooklyn federal judge found that Jonathan Braun had violated the rules of his release by assaulting a nanny, swinging an IV pole at a nurse and dodging tolls in luxury cars.

“The government knew that only 6 of the immigrants were convicted of violent crimes ... officials were aware that more than half, or 130, of the deportees were not labeled as having any criminal convictions or pending charges”
Trump administration knew most Venezuelans deported from Texas to a Salvadoran prison had no U.S. convictions
Homeland Security records reveal that officials knew that more than half of the 238 deportees to El Salvador were labeled as having no criminal record in the U.S. and had only violated immigration law...

Dear @washingtonpost.com, please check back in with the Ramirez family in Arizona you profiled the day before the inauguration. I can’t stop thinking about their blind trust of Trump and wondering how they’re feeling today.

For this Latino family, voting for Trump was part of preserving their American Dream
They say Republicans can’t assume that they will always support GOP candidates, though. They’re waiting to see whether Trump keeps his promises.

It's not that I "hate" Democrats who pursue appeasement strategy; it's that I want them to pursue the only strategy that will ever work against fascists, which is defiant uncompromising performatively disobedient opposition, and when they opt for doomed foolishness I am demoralized by the failure.

Check out p. A1 of today’s @washingtonpost.com, the day after millions of citizens gathered in thousands of cities across the nation to protest the president. The fatal ski jump story gets center stage. The protests? Buried inside. #handsoff

“We worry this risks lowering the policy credibility of the administration on a forward-looking basis,” said George Saravelos of Deutsche Bank. “The market may question the extent to which a sufficiently structured planning process for major economic decisions is taking place.”

I think @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social is on to something here. And the primary audience that needs to hear this message is journalists. Stop writing headlines and articles that present these executive orders as settled law! youtu.be/K8QLgLfqh6s

Isn’t it weird how the word “filibuster” has disappeared since the election? Isn’t it odd that Mitch McConnell could lock down Obama’s first term but nobody can stop unelected Elon from pulling the wires out of the walls? Even if 49% of the country voted for this, what about the 48% that didn’t?!

Having watched with growing alarm the developments of the last 24 and 36 hours in Washington, I thought I’d take a stab at how the US media would cover this story if it was happening in a foreign country. Here’s that story that should be written this weekend: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-s-jun...

I’m so frustrated and anxious I’m jumping out of my skin. The GOP perfected the opposition playbook during Obama’s presidency. Why are the Democrats acting like they have no idea what to do? Do what the GOP did! Oppose everything! No deals, no expediting anything. Fight back!

Here’s an MLK quotation for the next 4 years: “I never intend to become adjusted to segregation and discrimination. I never intend to become adjusted to religious bigotry. I never intend to adjust myself to economic conditions that will take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.”
