1 AM at Kew Jodrell Laboratory, I finally finished the first round of lab work on the ‘Primroses Tree of Life’ samples, and was thrilled to see that only TWO of the over 300 specimen samples were unusable. The next step is to return to Asia to start this year's Primula hunting fiedlwork!!!

Primula specuicola (Easter-flower or Cave primrose).

Moab, Utah, USA.
A small wildflower, growing in wet, mossy sand, along a sandstone alcove wall. The flowers are violet-pink, with white to yellow centers. The top a single slim, green stem, with a rosette of small light green leaves at the base of the plant.

Once snow starts melting these ones come out. Their flowers sometimes even pierce the snow 👉 Soldanella pusilla.

This subspecies is endemic to Algeria and Morocco.

While Primula vulgaris is common in Europe, its North African subspecies is a rare find in Algeria, residing solely in humid mountain forests.
