My mom still requests Christmas lists from all her adult children, which I appreciate, but also has caveats like “No video games” and has told me she won’t buy any of my nerd interest stuff (which is to say, all my interests) but then bugs me for not giving her a bigger list.

SO... I'm pretty much done with Fortnite. There were statements made by Tim Sweeney saying that AI usage doesn't need to be disclosed, and then AI usage was found all over this current season- from art to sprays to in-game songs. Between that, and the upcoming shitty wizard collab... Yeah, I'm done.

Beat Final Fantasy VI tonight. Easy to see why so many people call it their favorite, definitely one of the best. I think I’m still partial to IV from the 2D era but this was a damn good time.

the literal beat for beat events of the ending of Final Fantasy XIII are entirely impossible to understand or even speculate on without the context of a lore video released in a 2011 press conference
After "film trilogy that dropped a critical plot point exclusively via timed Fortnite event" and "video game series whose story only makes sense if you're aware of the events of a canon pachinko machine", I feel like there are whole frontiers of user-hostile narrative design waiting to be explored.
