I see so many heartbreaking pleas for support from people in Gaza. Their lives are ruined, their homes are destroyed, their children are at terrible risk from disease and starvation.
Every Saturday I make one donation to one of them. It's not nearly enough. But it's not nothing 💔

It's only a matter of time before humanities departments will be forced to accept AI-authored assignments, as part of revised university policy to cooperate with these billionaires. It's already happening, and our response needs to be decisive. Because our students' ability to *think* is at stake.

Universities are assembling larger and larger teams to deal with academic integrity issues--mostly focused on AI--while simultaneously holding AI "writing" contests, AI-themed events, "hey, come play with these fun tools!" The messages are so mixed, it's criminal. Because AI is bloated with money.

Glad people are talking about reducing consumption. Our economy provides us with so much of the wrong kinds of stuff, made in the wrong kinds of ways, out of the wrong kinds of materials. Christmas lists give me hives. I hate shopping.
I think I will ask for homemade poems this year.

This is 100% my approach.
If only I could persuade certain of my students that I am serious about them not using it as well - at least in my courses.
A good number of my students are just as disaffected as I am though. I'm proud of their discernment.
one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Utterly ludicrous framing from @nytimes.com here, treating Pete Hegseth's arguments as if they're legitimate. The casual reader will be left with no inkling whatsoever of how unusual and corrupt an abuse of the process this truly is:

Don't cross a picket line!!
Imagine a picket line in front of EVERY *bux.
BREAKING: Starbucks workers have launched a massive, nationwide strike.

Baristas in 40 cities have walked off the job on the busiest day of Starbucks' year.

Upwards of 12,000 @sbworkersunited.org members could ultimately go on strike as the union escalates.

Yes indeed. All the ones who depend on big donors instead of deep connections with voters.
In addressing whether removing Senator Schumer as leader should be an issue in Democratic primaries, Senator Sanders broadens the focus: "We need to take on the Democratic establishment all over this country."

I wrote to my Caving Senator, @durbin.senate.gov, and told him to resign. JB can appoint someone who still has teeth.

I've read a dozen pieces on the Cavers and their votes today; especially appreciated comments from furloughed federal workers in this piece: www.gravityisgone.com/a-slap-in-th...

Great reporting on this.
FULL STORY: Finding that federal agents repeatedly used force that “shocks the conscience” and lied about their actions, a federal judge issued a sweeping injunction designed to permanently rein in agents’ use of tear gas and pepper balls. @wttw.bsky.social

Another salient detail in this epic thread.
Federal agents can only use force when it is "objectively necessary to stop an immediate threat of the person causing serious bodily injury or death to another person."

There must be two separate warnings given before force is used, Ellis rules.
November 6, 2025 at 6:47 PM
another telling detail from this thread
Ellis rejects the DOJ's argument that plaintiffs are not protected by the First Amendment because they've "intermingled themselves with rioters."

"The unlawful activity by a few protesters does not transform a peaceful assembly into an unlawful assembly," Ellis says
November 6, 2025 at 6:45 PM
Just one of the telling details in this thread.
Ellis: Federal agents described a number of protestors as "professional agitators" based on their use of whistles, in part.

"Describing neighborhood moms and rapid response groups as professional agitators shows just how out of touch these agents are and how incredible their statements are."

This is terrible news. And it's terrible *for news*. Teen Vogue has been outstanding for all kinds of political and cultural coverage.
Teen Vogue did some great journalism around immigration detention and enforcement. Sounds like corporate has now killed that off.

The media landscape shrinks even further.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
