Note: He is expressly saying "the murders we are doing are with the President's express approval" and the President is nodding along as he says it; this is not going to be a complicated war crimes trial if the Hague ever gets its hands on either of them

It's great that reporting on the double tap has spotlighted the abject criminality of this Administration.

But don't forget: Venezuela is not waging war on America or Americans, and the men killed were not combatants.

The first strike was every bit as illegal as the second.

If you are a voter in Tennessee's 7th Congressional District and also a fan of The Wire, I will, on evidence you voted today, pen a personal apology for having killed any character you cared for.

And yes, this assumes Wire fans do not vote for some cheese-eating supplicant to any tinpot dictator.

this is exactly why Mark Kelly et al did that spot telling military and intelligence officers they can refuse illegal orders — there's no way Hegseth or Trump will EVER accept blame for them
WAPO: “.. Officials in Congress and the Pentagon said Monday they are increasingly concerned that the Trump administration intends to scapegoat the military officer who directed U.S. forces to kill two survivors of a targeted strike ..”

UPDATE: On this morning's Up first, @npr.org says that they have confirmed that "Hegseth ordered both strikes." (Ie, the first on the boat, the second to kill the survivors.) Around 5 min mark. Assuming more on this forthcoming.

Meanwhile, the panicked buck passing reactions of the Pentagon and WH, and condemnations by all, even GOP MoC (!) indicate that the original Post story is true.

So kudos to the Post, on doing something that — to date — no one else has the resources to do. (2/2)

Brief recap:

On Friday, the WaPo reported that SecDef Hegseth personally ordered the execution of helpless survivors of a military attack, literally the definition of a war crime.

Since then, no other outlet has been to able to replicate that reporting, even though they’d love to. (1/2)

These people are so odiously condescending.
For my part, I would say that questioning the framing of some Times stories—for example, the highlighting of Trump’s putative emotions or the foregrounding of what he says (even when, as is often the case, what he says is false)—is not an indication that I want my “views validated.”

Costco is right to challenge Trump’s unlawful tariffs. He abused emergency powers to sidestep Congress’s clear constitutional authority over trade. No president can rewrite tariff law on a whim.

For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

there is no legitimate definition of the term "democracy" under which maps like these are "democratic." this level of stovepiping is banana republic shit. this is effectively no different from stuffing a ballot box
Indiana Republicans have unveiled their proposal to re-gerrymander the congressional map & expand their current 7-2 majority to 9-0.

The Dem-held 1st would flip to Trump+12 & the 7th to Trump+19. All 7 GOP seats would be at least Trump+18.

2/2 Part of the pain in watching that response is knowing how the reported patently illegal orders will affect US servicemembers.

I highly recommend this essay by @marknevitt.bsky.social (Commander, JAGC (ret.)):
Killing Shipwrecked Survivors is Not Just Illegal—It Endangers U.S. Servicemembers
If the United States chooses a path where killing defenseless survivors becomes acceptable, American servicemembers will pay the price for that choice.
