Hi! In case we don’t know each other yet: I’m Kat. I am a queer enby from/in Denmark, who’s named their dog after Chewbacca. I’m a manager of a team of tech writers at Epic Games. I post moodboards and read romance novels, and Kaidan Alenko will forever be my space husband.

One of my favorite things about sharing this talk with friends and industry colleagues is how many crafters have 👀 my sweater and told me they can tell it’s handmade because of how well it fits me. Thanks my dudes, I made that 😌
Point of view: you’ve chosen to attend my talk about moving from being an individual contributor into a manager role, hoping to learn a few tips.

October Spooky Reads: All Of Us Murderers by @kjcharleswriter.com

Ghosts! Curses! Family secrets! An inheritance at stake! A walled estate and the Dartmoor mists closing in! The romance is delightful, the plot reminiscent of a good Agatha Christie crossed w classic Gothic. A+ atmosphere & plotting

"But when the team looked at the employees’ actual work output, they found that the developers had completed tasks 20% slower when using AI than when working without it. Researchers were stunned. “No one expected that outcome. We didn’t even really consider a slowdown as a possibility.”

Man, a lot of things get better. You don’t have to always try to find out what you like anymore. To “create” yourself.
You’re you. You know what food you like. What movie genres. The spot around the corner.

You’re provably also past living up to your potential; you’re BEING you. It rocks.
Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

For the past few years, I have gleefully buying books - and passing a lot of them on to others once I’ve read them. And recently, I’ve re-found my love for the library.

Physical books are a joy. And they are becoming increasingly important.
Saw someone say, “Stop hoarding books, we don’t need paper books anyway” and I can’t express how misguided this is. Online libraries disappear, digital books can be altered, and with Big Tech seeking to destroy history and literacy, print media has never been more essential.
