It is supremely ironic that, maybe 20 years ago, people were very worried about Wikipedia and its impact on knowledge, but wildly optimistic about social media as a positive force for debate, politics etc.
Now, Wikipedia stands apart as a genuine online positive.

With all its flaws, Wikipedia is still one of the truly great places of the Internet.
Today, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of @wikipedia.org, which for a quarter of a century has been collaboratively built by unpaid strangers on the internet.

Yes, I was skeptical too - even though I wasn't overly optimistic about social media. I was socialized on the internet through forums, which I considered a better form of social media bc the communities set their own rules and moderated themselves (which admittedly also has its weaknesses).

This sounds like an unmissable exhibit, but the phrase "defence of museums with global collections" is doing a huge amount of work as a justification for clinging on to "collected" (stolen) Hawaiian heritage.

Es sollte übrigens auch all den durch eine Diktatur ja ach so sensiblen AfD-Wähler*innen im Osten mal klar gemacht werden, dass gegen die Möglichkeiten, über die eine Kombi aus Palantir und Exekutive verfügt, die Stasi ein Witz war. Die braucht keine IMs. Die nutzt Smartphones. Die überwacht ALLE.

Inzwischen habe ich den Eindruck ist es bei so einigen kein grundsätzliches Nicht Einverstandensein mit totalitären Staatstechniken, sondern ob sie sich als Teil der Machtausübenden imaginieren oder eben nicht.

Dass es tatsächlich Projekte gibt, die nicht durch den Grundbedarf von Unis gestemmt werden sollten sondern zusätzliche Finanzbedarfe haben.
