ScholarGPS 2024 “Highly-Ranked Scholar – Lifetime”.

ScholarGPS 2024 rankings are out (scholargps.com). Using numbers of papers, citations and co-authors, and excluding self-citations, “Highly-Ranked Scholar – Lifetime” = “top 0.05% of all scholars worldwide”.

Another criminality-from-face paper!
doi.org/10.1007/s110...
A Springer Multimedia Tools and Applications paper claims 95% accuracy at classifying a person as criminal or not. But 100% correlation of categories to different image sources. A fatal error as outlined in:

The “Criminality from Face” Illusion will be my talk in the Data Bias and Fairness Speaker Series hosted by the Kansas Data Science Consortium, Feb 19 at 2:00 pm CST. The talk should be easy to understand and illustrate some basic data science lessons.

IREX, the NIST iris recognition effort, keeps a leaderboard of iris matchers. The Notre Dame Computer Vision Research Lab has the TripletNN algorithm on the leaderboard currently. The only open source, and I believe the only non-commercial entry listed. Not number 1, yet.

How Much Do I Need to Change My Face to Avoid Facial Recognition?

This is an interesting question. Kyle Barr asked several colleagues and I this question for Gizmodo.

“Iridology should be regarded as a medical fraud.”
I recently reviewed a paper about iridology for IEEE Access. It had the nerve to cite John Daugman. My review was a hard reject, in memory and honor of John.
