(1/3)가끔 엘에이 한인타운 식당에 가면 옆 테이블에서 들려오는 노년층의 대화를 듣게 되는데, 그 내용이 너무 터무니없어서 속이 답답해질 때가 있다. 이번 주말에도 그런 일이 있었다.
일요일 점심, 우연히 식당에서 두 노인의 대화를 듣게 됐다. 주제는 ‘마약과 나라 걱정’. 처음엔 한국 얘기였다. 노인 1은 중국인들이 무비자로 한국에 들어오면서 마약이 퍼졌다고 주장했고, 노인 2는 고개를 끄덕이며 맞장구를 쳤다.

나는 통일교 교인들에게는 좋은 선입견이 있다. 미국에 와서 사실상 처음 접한 개신교계 인물들이 통일교인이었다. 개인적으로는 평균적인 통일교 신도들이 평균적인 다른 기독교계 신도들보다 더 순수하고 열정적이라고 생각한다.
그러나 종교 단체로 보자면 통일교에 대해서는 부정적이다. 지도부의 전략이나 영향력을 보면 통일교는 종교 단체로서보다는 로비단체나 사업체로서의 능력이 탁월하다고 본다.

(1/2)My ebike’s odometer just hit 5,000 miles yesterday—a milestone since I bought it back in October 2023. I’ve used it mostly for commuting to work, and it’s held up surprisingly well.
I really enjoy riding it. It’s easy to handle and fits seamlessly into my daily routine.

그럼에도 불구하고, 성비위 문제를 제대로 해결하지 못한 현재의 조국혁신당과 국민의힘이라는 두 정당 사이에서 어느 쪽을 지지하겠느냐고 묻는다면, 고민은 되지만 조국혁신당을 선택할 것 같다.

(1/3)최근에 The Strain이라는 FX의 작품을 완주했다. 몇 년 전 시즌 1과 2를 보고 “이 정도면 최고의 공포물 중 하나다”라고 생각했지만, 이후에는 나머지 이야기를 볼 기회가 없었다. 그러다 우연히 내가 구독 중인 플랫폼에 올라온 걸 발견하고, 드디어 완주하게 되었다.
시즌 1과 2가 워낙 강렬하고 인상 깊어서 끝까지 보긴 했지만, 전체적으로는 용두사미라는 느낌이 강하다. 책으로 읽었다면 또 다른 감상이 있었을지도 모르겠지만, 적어도 TV 시리즈로서의 결말은 아쉬움이 컸다.

기독교의 파시즘 성향을 짚어주신 전우용 교수님의 말씀 잘 들었다. 나는 예수님과 사도 바울 모두가 구약에 기록된 파시즘적인 성향을 끊어내려고 노력했다고 생각한다. 두분 다 선택받은 유대인끼리만 잘 해보자는 메시지 대신 유대인이라는 울타리 밖의 사람들에 대한 애정과 관심을 보였다.
그런 가름침을 따른다는 오늘날 기독교인은 애무 파시즘에 쉽게 빠지는것으로 보인다.

Thankfully, I tested negative for COVID again today.
That said, it’s been odd waking up with a sore throat and a stuffy nose the past few mornings. I’m guessing it might be a side effect of sleeping on the couch. Or who knows, maybe it’s just the placebo effect playing tricks on me. #COVID
