5 years ago today I quit my job with #PPB because I had had it with the fascist nonsense and blatant support of the jackass in the White House.

I am having a much better day than he is today.

Not usually one for schadenfreude but today feels like I can indulge, as a treat.
Like, education is step one, but at what point am I obligated to report the relative in question to some kind of health authority, especially with small children living there and medically complex elders frequently visiting?
Does someone have any suggestions on books that address basic food handling? Like why you don't recook food left out accidentally overnight because some poisons aren't killed by cooking once they set in?

Why, yes, I am falling into fandom and refusing to get up and look at the news. Is it:

A) neurodiversity strikes again
B) migraine and/or nerve pain
C) a crappy work day resulting in exhaustion
D) the ever-nearing approach of full-blown fascism
E) all of the above

I still can't get over this photo
This photo accompanying a news story about the heist at the Louvre is perfection.
Randomly coming across people i knew on LiveJournal from *squints* Buffy fandom? on bsky and being happy they're still decent folks, by interpretation of their reskeets, is a trip

man wouldn't it be nice to have a week -- even a day or two -- that's not like getting blasted in the face with a firehose

why is it an essential service to appoint right wing judges, demolish the east wing, but not to feed americans
Absolutely inexcusable.
Dems/Ind Senators voting in favor: Coons, Durbin, Fetterman, Hassan, Heinrich, Kaine, Kelly, King (I), Klobuchar, Reed, Schiff, Shaheen, Welch, & Whitehouse.

Senators not voting: Duckworth & Tillis
Buying a house was part of the "getting married" process for my folks when they were in their twenties in the late 1970s.

I am twice their age and 99% of housing stock is out of reach and the last 1% needs to be bulldozed or exorcised.
The average age of U.S. homebuyers is now 56, up from 49 last year.

In 1981, the year trickledown economics began, it was 31.

Anyway if you have a Nazi tattoo it’s true you’re not a secret Nazi. You’re an open Nazi. You literally have a sign that you carry around in your body every day that says “I’m a Nazi.”

I will always remember a comment from someone who said her friend preferred “pregnant people,” because she’d been a pregnant teen, and she was very much not a woman then. Sure, you could say “pregnant women, girls, nonbinary people, trans men, and gender nonconforming people,” but why ? Be concise.
“I was with you, until you said ‘pregnant people.’”

I get this a lot. I’m an abortion provider, and the CEO and President of an org known for abortion advocacy. Let’s talk about why I use inclusive language — and why I’m not stopping. 🧵

People refusing to let a Nazi tattoo make them reassess their priors is really something.

Being able to process new information and update your beliefs, or at least your arguments, accordingly isn't just a sign of maturity, it's a sign of intelligence.

a functional press would, every single day, repeatedly, across numerous paragraphs in every story about him, make it clear that this is indisputably the most corrupt President in U.S. history
Trump: "It's awfully strange to make a decision where I'm paying myself. But I was damaged very greatly and any money I would get I would give to charity."

Oh, my god. When I first heard about this I thought it was another stupid "clean on opsec" thing. But it isn't. It's so much worse. Wtf is Halligan doing? This feels like something a person could be disbarred for.
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

Wait, it's the dude challenging Susan Collins, who we were hopeful about, with a Nazi tattoo? And he got it in Croatia?

Not to fight the Balkan wars again, but did he confuse it with Serbia?

Visiting my Croatian cousins in 2012 they asked "Why do Americans hate Obama? He seems normal and good. "

billionaires should not be allowed to exist because the downside of "one of them loses their mind" is simply too dangerous for a functional society

also, having a billion dollars tends to make you lose your mind
The whole point of democracy is so one person's derangement does not become everybody's problem. It's social hygiene. The fact the richest men in the West are a mix of grotty twelve year olds and deranged apocalypse fanatics is a problem, and we should be honest about it.
