Multilateralism endures; we proved Trump wrong; climate action is unstoppable.

Now, governments must do better and exceed their current commitments. 1/2

The world is watching Belém for a clear sign that governments are rising to the urgency of the climate crisis and are determined to do better, together.

Citizens will not thank those who choose instead to reopen what has already been settled. (1/8)

Climate impacts fall hardest on minorities and women; climate justice begins with recognising that. When 92 countries at COP30 reaffirm their commitment to human rights and gender-responsive climate policy, they reinforce the foundation of effective climate action. (1/4)

Good discussion this morning at COP30 on trade and climate. As new initiatives emerge – including the Integrated Forum on Climate and Trade – we need clearer evidence, stronger regional voices, and real alignment between climate and trade rules. Philanthropy has a role to play.

The Land Gap Report shows why pledges built on vast land removals are no substitute for real decarbonisation – especially phasing out fossil fuels. (1/2)

I felt a deep joy hearing that social justice is returning to the COP space.

It must stay — it’s our moral compass.

Today’s conversation on the Global Ethical Stocktake at #COP30 reaffirmed that

Amid the noise, there is a clear signal from the IEA’s World Energy Outlook: the energy transition is underway. Clean energy is surging – solar up 344% and wind nearly doubling by 2035 – and fossil fuel demand will peak around 2030 if governments stick to their pledges, if we hold our nerve. (1/7)

The question of where #COP31 is hosted is secondary to what it delivers. What matters most is real progress on climate ambition, finance & implementation - especially for the energy transition. 1/3

Great to join the opening of the Global Climate Action Agenda at COP30.

A decade on from Paris, the Action Agenda has mobilised cities, investors, and businesses at scale.

The next decade must see a more focused and accountable phase of delivery, guided by the Global Stocktake

COP30 can be remembered not just for new pledges or targets but for rebooting the relationship between citizens and the climate regime.

COP 30 could be the ‘People’s COP’
This year’s conference is an opportunity to be remembered not just for new pledges or targets but for rebooting the relationship between citizens and the climate regime.

At the @wemeanbusiness.bsky.social pavilion today with The B Team and Exponential Road Initiaitive, I joined business and policy leaders to discuss how we can unlock exponential tipping points – moments when innovation, investment, and policy combine to accelerate systemic change. #COP30 1/4

Alors que l’action climatique risque d’être éclipsée par une vision politique de court terme, les villes ont gardé les yeux rivés sur l’horizon.

The methane summit in Belém – co-hosted by Brazil, China, the UK and Barbados – marks an important step to cut methane and other short-lived pollutants, the fastest and most cost-effective way to slow warming and deliver cleaner air. (1/6)

As COP30 begins in Belém, we mark ten years since the Paris Agreement. It has reshaped the global economy – doubling clean-energy investment, pushing renewables past coal, and bending the projected warming curve. (1/10)

Europe will arrive in Belém with a strong NDC – just in time, but a clear signal that it remains fully committed to the Paris Agreement. This was a hard-fought outcome, achieved in a difficult political and economic context. 1/4

Happy to be in Rio de Janeiro for the Local Leaders Forum, promoting the vital role of subnationals in the green transition.

Cities can close up to 40% of the global emissions gap - many are acting faster than their national governments. Protecting 1.5°C starts locally! 1/2

Worrying to see some of Europe’s biggest CEOs calling for the full abolishment of corporate due diligence rules.

Six months ago, the same voices were calling for “simplification.” Now they want to scrap the framework entirely. What changed? (1/7)

Almost every government in the world recognises climate change as a defining challenge and clean energy as the backbone of prosperity.

Denying this reality doesn’t stop it – which is why countries are accelerating climate action and cooperation even in tough times.

Great discussion at @harvard.edu with Arunabha Ghosh, Adnan Amin and Joseph Aldy. I underlined that the Paris Agreement remains the backbone of climate cooperation. In this volatile moment, Europe must defend it - with strong 2035 and 2040 targets and coalition-building.

Ahead of UNGA and COP30, the EU faces a decisive moment. Its pledge to set a 2035 NDC and 2040 target is a step forward – but the path ahead is still a long one. (1/3)
