In this episode, Brendan Lee speaks with Dr. Leslie Laud. She is the founding Director of ThinkSRSD, a writing program built upon Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD). The discussion covers ThinkSRSD's key strategies, including mnemonics and how to apply them across different grade levels and writing genres. Furthermore, Dr. Laud addresses implementation challenges and provides advice for teachers, emphasising a gradual release of responsibility, the significance of teacher collaboration and the need for professional development that respects teachers' unique contexts.

CKLA would be so much better if they incorporated writing instruction such as ThinkSRSD. As a tutor, I use CKLA and CKHG texts within the ThinkSRSD framework. We develop knowledge by developing our analytical skills and learning how to express new understandings = structured writing every day.

The big ThinkSRSD thread, Fall 2024, as told by my students.

-I remember really struggling when writing the pre-assessment. I was in a perpetual state of writer's block. Now my writing flows much more naturally, because I have learned that academic writing depends a lot on a pre-writing plan.

I speak with @leslielaud.bsky.social the founding Director of ThinkSRSD, a writing program built upon Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD). I first came across SRSD a few years ago and have been puzzled as to why it is not more widely known and used, given its strong evidence-base.
