My blog for the British Museum on Anne Damer is now live - very happy to see this out in the world. #AnneDamer #PrideMonth #LGBTQIA #c18th
Anne Seymour Damer: public life, private love
Gossip about Anne Damer's sexuality nearly wrecked her relationships and reputation, but in this queer love story, love outlasts scandal.

the thing is December is fine. I don’t mind December. December winter is novel, it is fresh. But December carries within it the threat and anticipation of February, a December that is colder, crueler, a December that has aged and grown vengeful. I can already feel February, and it is intolerable

I like it that the earliest sunset is on St Lucy's Day even if it isn't the day with least time between sunrise and sunset any more.
Are you all ready?!?! The earliest sunset of 2025 in Dublin will be at 16:05:43 on the 13th of December. You know what that means? The #TheGrandStretchIsBack on the 14th!

Creative writer/teacher friends of Bluesky! I’m looking for good pieces of ‘craft’ writing that discuss strategies for implementing peer feedback on creative work. What to take, what to leave. how to make the most of the dialogue, but also take responsibility for the final decision. Any tips?

Three weeks ago I marked nine years on Testosterone.

I didn't celebrate it then because I was in the middle of a multi-month battle to be allowed to stay on it, despite not producing my own hormones and simply wanting to remain on the exact prescription I'd had for nine years without any problems.

From the government that first refused to allow unaccompanied children seeking asylum to access family reunion, then suspended *all* family reunion.
Great to hear Rachel Reeves acknowledge that "there are many reasons why people choose to have children then find themselves in difficult times. The death of a partner. Separation. Ill health. A lost job. I don’t believe that children should bear the brunt of that."

So why should migrant children?

Seriously, UK establishment, try to show your humane side in this.

International students are reading these headlines, and they are seeing how they’re turned into a political football, not the learners in a very precarious position that they are.
Props to the first journalist who asks how international students are actually doing while being turned into a political football.

Could start with the dangers of reporting bullying and the way university’s research reputations are upheld by those they make most precarious (and try to silence):
