Normal people don't want to *influence* anyone. Marketers, politicians, and cult leaders want to influence people. Normal people just want to have friends, or at least friendly conversations.

There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

Great analysis from @allancheapshot.bsky.social on what fans should've seen coming: WrestleMania's impending transformation into a sold show for KSA.

WrestleMania to Riyadh changes the bargain.

Site fees replace gate risk. “Progress” becomes a picture on demand. And the travelling crowd turns into scenery.

I wrote about fans, money, soft power, and the runway night that still hangs over this.

The online and video game culture referenced in the Verge article is out of my depth. At this point, trying to fit the suspect's motives into a conventional left-right ideological box may be a disservice.
A lot of the press is running with Utah Governor Spencer Cox's speculation that the messages on the bullets speak for themselves. It's quite a stretch however to say anything about this is self-explanatory.
Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer scratched bullets with a Helldivers combo and a furry sex meme
The suspected shooter left a hodgepodge of extremely online taunts.

The most fun I had in theater was performing in the musical revue Tomfoolery. Such uproarious, incisive songs. He walked away from stardom to teach math at Harvard and my alma mater, UC Santa Cruz. A grander mind and sharper wit cannot be found today. Rest easy, Mr. Lehrer.
Sad sad sad sad sad!!!

We need more geniuses that are also hilarious!!!
