Writer (The Song of Achilles, Circe), reader, theater lover. Cats, Long Covid. She/her.
A wonderful, resonant essay from @thesicktimes.org about how we can better listen to anyone going through something catastrophic. "Avoiding the topic feels absurd — like I’m standing in quicksand, and we’re chitchatting over glasses of lemonade as I slowly sink." thesicktimes.org/2025/11/28/y...
You know someone with Long COVID. They need you to ask about it genuinely. - The Sick Times
If community-building is a bulwark against autocracy, then asking after one another might be a good place to start.

I know it’s not Caturday but I was late with the evening treat and found this waiting for me.

Happy Independent Bookstore day! It's always a great day to support indie bookstores, but I'm glad for this chance to celebrate them especially! I am so grateful for all they do for communities, readers, and writers. Support indies with online ordering too--through their websites or bookshop.org
Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores.

Circe, Achilles, Galatea, and even an obscure short story I wrote long ago.

Thought I would share my new coping mechanism pic. My child asked a good friend to knit a pink hat for our cats, and he graciously agreed. We don’t usually put clothes on our cats because they are NOT fans, but Muffin was very sleepy and agreed to model.

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!

Love these three short videos from fellow Long Covider Matt McGorry on 4 common Covid myths. He nails it on all counts. I wear an N95 mask in all public spaces to protect myself from Covid, flu, and other viruses, and to make sure I'm not spreading them to others.
Brilliant - @nychealthy.bsky.social teamed up with Matt McGorry to make an info video on long covid. It's hands down one of the best I've seen in 5+ years 👏🏼

There are so many people we need to stand up for right now. Thanks to all of you who are calling their reps, protesting, donating, and taking action. Here is a great trans rights organization that I've been donating to. If you have others you love, share below! southernequality.org/tyep/

Okay, I cannot recommend 5calls.org enough. Enter your address and it will find all your reps (federal and state). AND give you a list of issues to call about AND which reps to call about each of them AND a little script for each, in case it's helpful. They have an app, too.
5 Calls
Spend 5 minutes. Make 5 calls. Make your voice heard.

The sharp increase of book bans in libraries and schools the last couple of years is truly disturbing--and it's another thing we must fight. So many brilliant, powerful, and vital books are on these lists, including the work of @pronounced-ing.bsky.social. Book challenges are also way up. (1/4)
Welp. There's EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU and LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE, marked as "remove from all libraries" as of October. 🙃
Clay updated their review database with the decisions for the nearly 50 objections filed last month.

Every single one of them was either restricted or removed.

These decisions were made without reading the books and without a public review committee.

I never ended up joining TikTok but I remain incredibly grateful to booktok and all the people who spoke about my books there. It meant the world to me during some very difficult years. Sending much love and so many thanks to all the passionate readers, now and always.

It’s often hard to find solid articles on Long Covid, but this one covers a lot of excellent ground.
