I made LOTH-BISCUITS IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY because these critters are from my one of my most favourite star warses (REBELS) and also because they're great at completely ruining a stormtrooper's day.

While part of the Ictaluridae family (North American catfishes), the widemouth blindcat is somewhat of an oddity: it’s the only species in its genus Satan. It's one of 3 known blind catfish species found in the US, all of which are found in Texas #25DaysofFishmas

Not exactly a looker - and I’m not just talking about their appearance. Widemouth blindcat is adapted for life in total darkness - it has a translucent body (no pigment needed to protect from UV exposure) with no eyes + no swim bladder (because of the immense pressure it lives at) #25DaysofFishmas

While "underground" might not strike you as a place having high aquatic biodiversity, the widemouth blindcat's Edwards Aquifer home supports 7 other species listed as federally endangered including the San Marcos salamander, Comal Springs riffle beetle + Peck's Cave amphipod #25DaysofFishmas

We know it! According to the cdc 25%of adults are afraid of needles & 16% avoid vaccines because of needle fear. Our pro vax comms needs to stop showing images of needles & stop using violent language like “jab” or “shot”
I think a huuuuuuge part of vaccine hesitancy is sublimated fear of needles

Hey y’all. My sister & I are facing an urgent housing crisis. Because of a major snowstorm, we haven’t been able to work, & now we can’t cover the full cost of our temporary housing for tomorrow. We’re doing everything we can to stay safe, warm, & stable, but we need help to get through this moment.

If you’re able to donate and/or share my post, it would mean the world to us. Every bit of support brings us closer to staying sheltered until we can return to work. We need at least 300 to stay afloat.

Thank you for your kindness & compassion 🧡

I like how our society pretends that there is a storied and proud intellectual tradition behind conservatism. Like some guys got together and thought real hard and invented bigotry.

Be weirder and more unsettling
I think it would be fun if writers who love language started intentionally writing more strangely as AI flattens written "content" into a mono-voice. it would cool I think if writers responded by focusing their individual efforts on cultivating a really unique voice that's hard to copy

Colorado pikeminnow is one of 4 species of pikeminnows (Ptychocheilus genus), all found in western North America + all large, predatory fish in the Leuciscidae (minnow) family. Though none grow as large - or as old (50+ years!) - as the Colorado pikeminnow! #25DaysofFishmas

While “large minnow” sounds like an oxymoron on par with “jumbo shrimp”, the Colorado pikeminnow historically grew nearly 6 ft/2 m long and could weigh over 80 lbs/40 kg. These days, however, the largest individuals are typically less than 4 ft/1.2 m long #25DaysofFishmas
