I was listening to @alfranken.bsky.social interview @jonathanalter.bsky.social - Alter seemed to argue that it’s not a big deal if Texas gerrymanders to get 5 more seats because historically Dems will likely pick up a lot more seats. But does he really think Trump will stop at Texas?

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

if constitutional rights only apply to individuals or states that have sued for relief, you don't actually have constitutional _rights_, you have _privileges_ that can sometimes (but not always) be secured for you by your lawyer
The upshot of this decision, for now, seems to be exactly the crazy patchwork scenario we were warned about:
- the lower-court injunctions continue to protect the parties (immigrant orgs, individuals and 22 states) from Trump's EO
- the EO can (and will) be enforced in the other 28 states

The obvious point here is that some presented "woke" as an existential risk to speech and academic freedom, and some people warned about govt censorship as a bigger threat.
