The large milkweed bug (Oncopeltus fasciatus) is a medium-sized hemipteran (true bug) in the family Lygaeidae. It is distributed throughout North America, from Central America through Mexico, the Caribbean and the United States, to southern Canada.

The eastern amberwing (Perithemis tenera) is a species of dragonfly in the family Libellulidae. It is very small, reaching a total length of no more than 25 millimetres (0.98 in). Males have orange or amber wings, and both sexes have a red pterostigma.

Linaria vulgaris, also known as the common toadflax, yellow toadflax, or butter-and-eggs, is a species of flowering plant in the family Plantaginaceae, native to Europe, Siberia and Central Asia. It has also been introduced to and is now common in North America.

Hurricane Melissa was one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, with winds of 185 mph (300 km/h) at its peak. This view of Melissa at Category 5 strength shows its intensity, as a lightning-packed eye wall circles the center of the storm. (1/8)

#Melissa ’s winds are likely to destroy buildings, cause widespread damage, cut power and communications for days, and leave communities isolated in #Jamaica.

Catastrophic flash flooding and numerous landslides are also likely, with storm surge and damaging waves along the south coast.

Polar-orbiting satellites witnessed a classic comma-shaped mid-latitude cyclone hanging over the United States and Canada yesterday.

The central low of the system spins over the Great Lakes region, while storms pop up along the tail end of the cold front over the Deep South.
