normalizing mask wearing makes criminalization, from this kind of surveillance to mask bans, way harder. you wearing a respirator to the grocery store, on transit, in healthcare is a practice of solidarity with the most marginalized in your community on more than one level.
A problem with most people thinking COVID-19 is no longer a threat is that I just had a weird loss prevention dude follow me around a grocery store (occasionally coughing) because he could not fathom that anyone wearing a face mask (despite me also using a cane)- wasn't nefarious. We're in a surge.

News orgs HAVE to stop calling these porn bans. Yes, #HB4938, does also criminalize porn — also terrible — it goes far beyond that.
LGBTQ+ sites, social media sites, community forums, Shakespeare, drag, a review of Mrs. Doubtfire, all punishable by jail $500K fine and twenty years in jail.

Wear a face mask when you go out in public- if for no other reason than knowing that they want you too sick, too exhausted and too burned out from dealing with back to back respiratory infections to speak up for yourself & your community. You deserve to protect your health.

Just FYI: while CDC is no longer tracking much of anything, wastewater data is still being reported. COVID-19 levels have just been nationally upgraded to “high”

Wanna know something even more ludicrous? When I was drawing Sonic the Hedgehog for Archie I legit got a death threat or two over Sonic #134 as well as a couple of slurs here and there. Its why my debut book was such a sore spot for me for so long. Its not academia but it was the exact same thing
When I was placed on the Professor Watchlist in 2021, people sent death threats about my children. I had security officers monitor my 8yo at school.
Where is all the outrage for those of us who have been targeted for years? Where is the outrage for our families?
My own colleagues are silent.

I've been leading an international team to use JWST to study the asteroid 2024 YR4, a building-sized object that will absolutely miss the Earth but we currently think has a 4% chance to hit the Moon in 2032. Today I'm in Helsinki with other interested scientists to discuss our (and their!) progress.

Hi authors! Please remember to file a claim!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
