imo "violence aimed at elites from non-elites" is the category of violence most disfavored in elite discourse. and violence that flows from elites to non-elites is not conceived of as violence at all. and these ideas frame the entire elite conception of who charlie kirk was and what his murder means

That's a great way to put it. Far-right affinity is part of the current very-online-nihilist cultural package, & the violence it inspires generally serves right-wing goals, but the nihilism & violence are themselves the goals in a way that confuses conventional understandings of political conflict

We don't talk about it, because we allowed everyone senior involved in Iran-Contra to simply continue participating in government, media, finance, & polite society, but the reason we're here in 2025 is largely due to the fact that no one beyond these low-level functionaries paid any price for it.
