Today my year 8s looked at primes and we did the sieve of Eratosthenes. And this year I remembered that there is one on Mathsbot so no shading mid lesson!

5 weeks of summer done, 2.5 to go! Might be time to start pondering things for Year 2 - first up, unpack all the boxes in the study so I can get to my desk.... #StillInHolidayMode

introduced the idea of zero pairs to my classes last week whilst discussing calculating across zero, today when we were adding and subtracting negative numbers using double sided counters they picked it up SO quickly.

Love it when a plan comes together!

Been ruminating on how to properly get to grips with the NI CCEA GCSE Spec and half way through building a revision website for my students as my holiday project I realised that I did the EXACT same thing in 2017 when the KS5 Specs changed in England! 😆

Interwoven Combined Probabilities, with Equations, Trig, Vectors, Sequences, Histograms, Straight Line Graphs, Angles and Surds.

These worked well with Y11 today who were looking at probability trees and hoping to revise other topics!

In #MathsToday, Y13 FM were introduced to their first Further Stats 1 'Wrogn' paper.
They had to identify and correct the error in each answer to get a set of model solutions. I felt it worked nicely as a way to gently introduce FS1 past papers, which we only finished the content for last week.

In #MathsToday with Y8 I used @taylorda01.bsky.social's IDQ's on Expanding Brackets as a Do Now, leading to double brackets...and with Y9 I used a Don Steward task on Simplifying Surds, and ended up talking about Exact Trig, Pythagoras, Hipassus, and the Unit Circle. #EduSky #MathsTeachers

@inquisitivetea2.bsky.social not to dox myself but seeing you retweeted into my timeline is a delightful blast from the past!

Hope life has treated you well since our time at NCA (I was a trainee 2012/13, then stuck around in maths until 2017)

Totally empathise with Jo's feelings around edutwitter and BlueSky. Miss the old days and haven't got the hang of Bluesky yet.
LOVE @catrionaagg.bsky.social & @mathsjem.bsky.social topic maps in this Gems Post though - sparked some more ideas to throw into our curriculum review....
