I've been away from Illinois for five years, but I'm pretty sure the Kingfisher is the very best thing to have happened in the time I've been gone.
Every semester, my union, NTFC Local #6546, holds a work-in on the day between classes and finals. Always a delightful event and this year, we had a visit from The Kingfisher, a student-led mascot that is slowly incepting its way into official status at UIUC!
