“We believe that, in obedience to Jesus Christ, its only head, the church is called to confess and to do all these things, even though the authorities and human laws might forbid them and punishment and suffering be the consequence.

Jesus is Lord.”

I hate gay Halloween, what do you mean you’re Ancient Greek particles used in conjunction to denote correlative clauses.

which is, I think, a really wild thing to say to a person and think you're on the liberative side of the conversation

I almost got into a fight with a professor of queer theology who literally told me I was wrong when I explained that my sexual orientation was not, in fact, fluid or mutable

it really is very upsetting to me given the particular shape and flavor of the religious homophobia of my upbringing, and its Theories About Gay People And Their Desire, I have to stop engaging with this

I mean hey, at least if they decide to do this, air traffic controllers are really easy to replace and quick to train and we have good staffing margins

I wonder why air traffic controllers might have such strong protections around their ability to call out sick

A ceasefire deal is good and worth celebrating on its own terms. But unless it is paired with serious steps towards an independent and sovereign Palestine - something no substantial Jewish Israeli political faction supports - it is not going to change the underlying dynamics in US public opinion.

Desperately need society to stop rewarding cruelty. To stop unleashing gratuitous, sociopathic cruelty. I think this is a phenomenon driven by the right but it’s infected all of us to one degree or another, and we need to remain cognizant of wanting not to be this way.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

We therefore pray thee, help thy servants, whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.

but I am saying that the current system of "idk every parish just kind of decides on a case by case basis with each hire; there may or may not be a diocesan minimum" does not seem to have proven itself well-suited to producing equity in compensation

okay I'm not saying that we should have strictly enforced pay tables for clergy (that factor in things like years of experience, ASA, variations in cost of living, etc) with both minimum and maximum allowable salaries
