his favorite mistake

Sometimes Kohaku looks at him with a scowl that forces Madara to confront what he believes he already knows: that Kohaku realizes that he’s a mistake.

Madara reminds himself of this, every once in a while. Whenever things get too tender between them. Whenever their lips meet and there’s a second of pause for them to think and his mind overwhelms him even though he wishes for otherwise.

It shouldn’t hurt. He should know. And isn’t it the truth? Shouldn’t he be pragmatic enough to accept that?

But it’s always Kohaku who makes it so hard to feel like a mistake.

Because after the scowl would come a hold of his hand.

After the silence there will always come another kiss, or another embrace, or another whisper of his name that is far too affectionate to be true.

He is a mistake, he knows.

But he seems to be Kohaku’s favorite mistake to make.
