This #bee really confused me. It was as big as a very large carpenter bee but definitely looked more like a massive leaf cutter. Turns out to be a #giantresinbee. They ARE related to leaf cutters but are Asian, introduced in the 90s. They are consider adventive as opposed to invasive.

Most people don’t think about #southcarolina when it comes to the #blueridgemountains. Even though only a tiny corner of the state falls in the #appalachianmountains it is an incredibly beautiful place. Grateful to live here and, honestly, glad it’s largely overlooked.

They’re a canary in the coal mine for forest health, habitat fragmentation, pesticide use, leaf blowers, and on and on. Most folks don’t make the connection between leaving fallen leaves alone on their property and the firefly life cycle. No layer of leaf litter? No fireflies.
