I dabbled in divorce law early in my career; never again.

In almost any other legal field, negotiation to a reasonable settlement is more likely than a long, expensive court battle. (1/4)

Trump deported Iranian Christians with open asylum claims for religious persecution four weeks ago.

He expelled other Iranian Christians, including children, to Panama in February.
Yes, but Trump didn't actually bring down prices at all, so it doesn't count.
On Fox News — when Zohran promises to bring down prices he’s a socialist, but when Trump did it he was a hero

(As Trump does the actual big government socialism with tariffs and taking control of companies, etc)

It is of course 100% legal to be 100% anti-Trump.
Trump sets his sights on Seth Meyers.

“NO TALENT, NO RATINGS, 100% ANTI TRUMP, WHICH IS PROBABLY ILLEGAL!!!”
About two thirds of the way through "Whispers" I was convinced these guys were back. They work well for any paranoia-themed plot.

"But Her Emails" he cried softly
What the actual f*ck?!!!

“Members of Trump’s National Security Council, including White House national security adviser Michael Waltz, have conducted government business over personal Gmail accounts, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post and interviews with three U.S. officials.“
Waltz and staff used Gmail for government communications, officials say
Trump’s national security adviser is trying to manage his way out of a crisis. But new revelations about his team’s operational security are piling up in the inbox.

Me: You should take extra humanities classes.

Student: Why? I'm going to be an engineer.

Me: ...can you handle honesty?

Him: ...sure?

Me: How many major engineering feats can you name that were solo?

Him: None?

Me: Exactly. You're not very good at communication. You need to be for your goals.
TBF, "authentic" is not the same as "enjoyable."

A combat game where you're downed the moment you get shot, lose the game, and cannot reset and try again is certainly authentic, but no one would want to play it.

The music cuts off awkwardly before the end, but this is an incredible NYC Halloween costume compilation.
Thread.
Know your values. Frame the debate.
I think one problem both UK Labour and US center left wonks have is they have a tendency to do what Stephen talks about here, which is to focus on a popular policy by itself without a proper cohesive mission behind each part

It’s a sad day when a judge has to order the President of the United States to feed vulnerable families and hungry children with funds already designated for that very purpose.

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.

Really. Read the whole thing. This is from the end.
No "true" American citizens. The fake (brown) ones are another matter.
Kristi Noem has claimed that "no American citizens have been arrested or detained" by immigration agents, despite copious evidence to the contrary.

Immigration policy expert @reichlinmelnick.bsky.social says the Homeland Security chief "is either ignorant of the facts or not telling the truth."

“But what if someone who doesn’t need food gets food”

I’m from California where every child in school receives a free hot lunch every day.

Who gives a shit and why do you care? Why are you complaining when your tiny red state check taxes pays for NONE OF THIS.

I’m glad my taxes pay it. I love it.

Thread. 😢
After 13 years in the US, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave. Having packed up everything and rethought about priorities, rather painstakingly, while I’m sad to leave the life I’ve made here, I’m also relieved that I won’t have to plan my life around immigration policies anymore.

Wh- why are you laughing?"
Mike Johnson says he will not bring the House back in session until the government reopens

This was good. But he missed the opportunity. The answer after that reframing needed to be "if the Trump administration is going to violate the law with impunity I'm not sure how ANY deal we could reach will matter - no matter what we pass, he'll just keep doing what he wants."
I love how Rep. Joe Neguse reframed this question.

Can I just say: This is how to be journalistically responsible without both-sidesing. There is no explicit condemnation here, no taking a side for or against. It's a simple and facially neutral statement of facts that are themselves really bad. That reprehensibility can speak for itself.
