Well hello everybody! Look who has decided to join Bluesky!

A big welcome to News At Six 1986, the dedicated fanpage for #TheNewsreader, its cast and crew, and sharing tidbits of retro nostalgia and Australian history too!

I cannot wait to bring more love for the show to this brand new platform!
Through it all, the good people of News At Six came together to look after one another through trialling times, and as we move away from News At Six for a while, I invite you to ponder this question: what do you reckon News At Six looked like in 1990 and beyond?

#TheNewsreader
After years of watching his boss hurt his coworkers around him, Dennis finally got to lead the team he loved.

I can imagine that Dennis would be a far fairer boss than Lindsay, who would do his best to retain his staff, while also pushing everyone to work hard.

#TheNewsreader
Lindsay Cunningham ran a cruel regime within the office, and for as long as the old head of news in charge, News At Six would not be progressing into 1990 with the modernness and ratings required for the upcoming new millennium.

It was clear that he had to go.

#TheNewsreader
News At Six’s beating heart was faltering, and without some much-needed structural change, its days were numbered.

In 1986 through to 1989, News At Six lost all of its onscreen talent; Geoff, Helen, Gerry, Rob and Dale, and its cracks were fully on show.

#TheNewsreader
News At Six is the heart of The Newsreader, and in 1989, it was as lively as ever.

News At Six had a double Logies victory, two of its employees had a baby, another two got married, and an interview with Prime Minister Bob Hawke was scored.

We have reach the end of News At Six Month 2.0, where we have had another look into the events of #TheNewsreader’ s main news station in 1989.

Where are we off to next?

I have been so fortunate to have spent time with #StephenPeacocke twice, and he is just as brilliant and warm in real life as he appears to be onscreen.

He has a big beating heart with love for his family, and he even gave Mum and I his trailer for our set day.

#TheNewsreader
In the end, all Rob wanted in life was to commentate sport, and spend every possible moment with his family. Nothing else mattered.

He had already had his grand final, and was happy to sit on the sidelines to see Noelene play the ‘game’ she loves - journalism.

#TheNewsreader
Throughout the show, Rob learns that it is okay to wear your heart on your sleeve and feel your feelings, none more so than experiencing PTSD after witnessing the Hoddle Street Massacre, and especially after the birth of his and Noelene’s daughter Hana.

#TheNewsreader
There was a turning point in which Rob realised that he cannot continue to work for a business which does not treat him, his wife or his other coworkers with respect.

If he doesn’t draw the line somewhere, what kind of a bloke is he, then?

#TheNewsreader
It’s at work where Rob met the beautiful and clever typist-come-producer, Noelene, who he grew very fond of, and as he fell deeper in love with her, he begun to see that people live different realities to him, and that he has to stand up for the people he loves.

#TheNewsreader
Rob is a bloke who realised he has a wicked position.

A former VFL player for the Saints, he was given a second chance at the box when News At Six gave him the sports reporting position.

He got to bring sport and fun to audiences, and live a cruisy life.

#TheNewsreader
It’s a wicked Newsreader birthday! 🎉

Today, we are celebrating the birthday of the terrific actor #StephenPeacocke, who has evolved our #RobRickards in such a beautiful way over the past three seasons of #TheNewsreader.

Hoping Stephen is having a wonderful day today! 💙🤴🏻🎂

Holy smokes, #TheNewsreader is outstanding TV. (Have just finished Season 2.)
I’ve gasped, I’ve exclaimed, I have marvelled…
Highly, highly, highly recommended!
Yes it was! The cultural exchange in this scene (Rob wearing a hanbok that Noelene’s grandmother bought for him) truly cemented him as a part of their family and cultural supporter. No doubt he helped Hana feel proud of her Korean heritage growing up too.
Considering how hesitant Byung-Ho was of Rob in the first two seasons (bless him, he only wanted the best possible partners for his girls), it was so sweet seeing him fully embrace Rob this season. He truly loved Rob by that point ❤️
They had the loveliest bunch of babies playing Hana, I bet she loved every moment with them. Little darlings! 💖
Everyone put on their bright faces for the camera for this very special day, and even with Hana feeling unsettled, it was a picture perfect moment of love, respect and gratitude for one another, which was authentically put together.

#TheNewsreader
Rob was not quite sure how to polish the look off, and Byung-Ho came over towards him.

“I’ll fix it for you.”

He showed Rob how to fix his jacket, and Noelene beamed watching her two beloved men bond with each other.

#TheNewsreader
The Kims gushed over Hana, and Rob came down fully dressed in his hanbok.

“What do you reckon?” He asked the family, and Soon-Hee told him that he looked so handsome.

Noelene had to agree too.

#TheNewsreader
Noelene’s grandmother had never been outside of Korea, and so when Helen rang Noelene begging her to come into work, Noelene decided this moment was too precious to give up.

Looking to her grandmother, she was determined to put her family first.

#TheNewsreader
The Kim family were all dressed in Korean hanboks, including Rob, who was hesitant.

“Sorry, is it a bit weird that I’m in a hanbok? Your dad is in a suit.”

Noelene smiled back at him. “It’s the way they show their love. My grandmother bought it specially.”

#TheNewsreader
#MichelleLimDavidson would draw on her lived experiences as a Korean woman for #TheNewsreader, and as a result, some of Noelene’s moments were inspired by her life.

In the #TVWeek from S03E06, Michelle said the family portrait “…is based on a story from [her] real life.”
The Kim Family Portrait was a beautiful display of love, respect and cultural connection.

Noelene’s grandmother was visiting Australia for the very first time, and nothing could be any more important than cherishing this moment 💖
