So I watched House of Dynamite and I thought it was a fantastic pilot episode for the sort of big budget limited series that Netflix doesn't make so much any more

Not enough attention is being paid to the effective closure of the bulk of one of the 2 or 3 most important public archives for modern British history. A terrible own goal for the BBC as a public-service agency.

This New Yorker documentary about the 1988 UK government ban on broadcasting the voices of Sinn Féin and I.R.A. leaders is pretty good but they show *that clip from The Day Today with no explanation and no indicator that it is satire.

it's because there is a particular section of political campaigning that exists in perpetual opposition and therefore hates any evidence of human warmth in a leader or candidate because it makes it more difficult to justify monstering them
