I had to screen record this one, it’s so bad. A visual artist who has Claude develop a “shot list” from his notes. Embarrassing. Also pretty interesting how little of this is about AI? Three years in and this is the best they’ve got. Embarrassing! Shameful!

Weird that we have a planet-wide magnetic defense system that self activates when the sun decides to attack but it is very pretty

Sanitation is one of the most important endeavours of human history. No joke. Those glorious shit tubes save lives.

when i was 15 i was convinced i wasn’t good enough for my very pretty girlfriend so i did all her homework for her, which eventually included reading “slaughterhouse-five,” which immediately led to me ignoring the fuck out of my very pretty girlfriend as i read kurt vonnegut’s other 13 novels.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!
tell me about a book that changed you
for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

it says a lot about the average politician that this guy seems to expect that zohran mamdani only said what he said to get elected and doesn’t actually believe in anything
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

The best thing to have is enough.
I've shared this quote before but I'll share it again, as it's one I've been thinking about a lot as I've watched how our oligarchs have been behaving over the past few months.

When I talk about the invention of "AI" as an attempt to manifest the Infinite Money God, this is part of what I'm talking about. Private equity achieved the ability to make money without a good or service—AI is the attempt to make money without even customers or employees.
This is one of the things I hate most about modern capitalism. The idea of making money has been fully peeled away from delivering any kind of goods or services that people would want to pay money for.
What a thrill to be part of @talkingpointsmemo.com's series about the past 25 years of digital media! I wrote about why private equity goons destroyed Deadspin and why it matters.

It’s predatory lending.
Trump saying “the only thing that happens is a lower payment” is exactly what the lenders say.
Your total cost of borrowing goes up.
The interest goes up.
That house costs WAY more in the long run.
You’re barely touching the principle for first decade

Communicating why a 50 year mortgage costs more, overall, than a 30 year mortgage should not be a hard task.
The problem is the average American is both functionally illiterate and innumerate, as a deliberate result of decades of the policies made by the very people pushing for 50 year mortgages.

The movies have never much cared about continuity before. Basically only when it's convenient and generally only within an individual Bond's movies. It's James Bond. No one, I think especially fans of the series, expects continuity between Craig and whomever. Stop assuming your audience is stupid.
Do...do people not understand continuity reboots? The Craig films were in a different continuity than the Connery-Brosnan films. Just reboot. It's easy.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”
Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:
“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

It's important to remember that WWI was not some just cause to defend freedom. It was a monumental waste of human life. Millions upon millions died for the pride of Princes, Kings, Kaisers, Prime Ministers, and Presidents. And these same men's inability to see a world where war wasn't inevitable.

Gotta say, this one's a bit of a puzzler.
Not the racism part, that's very clear.
But for decades these guys have been using the term "Starbucks barista" as a stand-in for "gaywad," and now they're mad not enough straight white guys are employed there?

Missouri's AG Andrew Bailey is suing Starbucks, arguing that its workforce is too "female" and "non-white" and as a result Missouri consumers “pay higher prices and wait longer for goods and services" because its workforce is "less qualified"
This is a brazenly racist and sexist lawsuit.

He is a computer safety researcher.
And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

We are headed toward martial law and the end of our democracy and I will never forgive the people in power who every step of the way told us it was all just fine and everything would work out swell as long as we kept pretending that nothing we have actually seen with our own two eyes was happening
