Every time SE ports something, we're lucky enough to do a new review for it! This time looking at the Switch 2 version of FF7 Remake, and from a colleague who once thunk the original cover looked "snowy"...I can't unsee the Snow Clouds now.🌨️

In 2025, I celebrated my lucky 33rd bday; I played, finished, and reviewed exactly 33 games on RPGFan and backlogg'd; and it was practically fate that my favorite game of the year was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The game is gorgeous, the story is epic, and, of course, the soundtrack goes bowowowow.

It's a tough call between 1 and 2, but I'm putting number 2 here as the game is in early access:

It's Grounded 2! Even as-is, this is probably the game I played and enjoyed most in 2025, especially when I was playing with my nephew. :)

Speaking of Pokémon, my number 3 is a tie between two enhancement romhacks I completed this year, with over 150 hours of play between them: Pokémon Shin Blue Version and Pokémon Polished Crystal Version. These are the definitive way to play the first two generations, in my opinion!

Number 4 is Chip's Challenge, one of the best games ever made that nobody talks about! This little Atari Lynx ditty's influence can be felt from DOOM to Pokémon.

I started up Fallout 76 after my cousin asked me to play with him.

I loved my time with the game! Especially building C.A.M.P.s, running raids, and wreaking havoc in what is by far my favorite setting in the series, West Virginia.

For number 6, I opened up Metroid Fusion just to get some Nintendo platinum points, and suddenly it was 9 hours later and ope, I had finished the whole game.

I still can't believe we got two videogame masterpieces from a single series in different gameplay styles on the same day in 2002!

At number 7, Oblivion Remastered surprised me in a big way!

I was skeptical at first: screenshots of the game looked bland, like the original's shiny colorful look was dimmed down in the remaster. While it *is* in some spots, largely the game is still the gorgeous, funny, amazing Oblivion I love.

It's time to go through my favorite games I played in 2025!

Starting out with honorable mentions are games I played to death last year, and games I consistently play almost every year:
✩- Fortnite Battle Royale (no-build)
✩- Stardew Valley
✩- Magic Knight Rayearth
✩- Final Fantasy VII (+ remake)

For reasons: Some games arrive needing a few (hundred) tweaks and updates to get going. And get going it did! As our re-review for #Fallout 76 makes a compelling case for trying something we might have had a...well, falling-out with.💚

In Missouri prisons, people can purchase some Nintendo Game Boy Advance titles on their Securus tablets. Last year, Byron wrote about how Harvest Moon took over his facility: "About a week after the game was made available, it was the only thing you heard many prisoners here talking about."

I have the same issue with “bagel egg and cheese” people, it’s “egg and cheese bagel” come on.

Now, in this space alien’s defense, you wouldn’t order apple crumble and custard that way, buuuut you might fling it in reverse order.
