trust should follow evidence and use, not precede it. and i think, basically, a lot of tech optimism is positioned against good scientific practice by presuming high trust and good outcomes before there's any evidence. this is always going to put good scientists in tension with technologists

one of my most niche complaints is that i've read several sci fi stories that are basically the Vietnam War But In Space where the vietnamese are giant bug aliens (i swear there is more than one story with this premise) and over the course of the story we learn it is bad to be racist to giant bugs
