can't believe outlets are running moral-panic headlines again based on flimsy anecdata from the *same* trade group (the national retailer federation) and sponsored by the *same* anti-theft company (sensormatic) that had to retract this *same* "study" just two years ago for being bogus.

We really need to have this debate in Australia too
I've written a couple of things over the last days about how the government and much of Westminster remaining on X as the platform becomes increasingly toxic is having consequences for our politics...
Our politics is increasingly normalised to racism – because politicians are addicted to X
The platform has quietly dragged British politics into a dark place

on a run this week i twisted my knee, took a medium gnarly spill. guy setting up his tent on the curb saw the whole thing and asked if i was okay. that small, reflexive kindness has been echoing in my brain as i think about how extravagantly cruel this country is to anyone living in poverty

Once domestically violent men become aware of this law, it will encourage more DARVO claims of abuse against their victims, to keep them financially powerless and unable to leave.
The amendment to the income apportionment bill, would mean police officers would have the power to request the cancellation of Centrelink payments to those accused of a “serious violent or sexual offence” where an arrest warrant had been issued

I wonder if this was the inspiration for 'Greensleeves' in 'Uncanny' by Paul Jennings. From memory (a long time ago) the outcome is similar. Whale flesh raining down over the whole town.

A historic moment as Treaty passes Vic Parliament, the first time in our history that a Treaty has been enshrined in law.

To those who have fought for this - thankyou.

This must act as a guiding light towards federal truth, Treaty & justice for all First Nations people.

The analysis* on the abc this morning was all around M Watt being a wily political operative over this bill when really he is just being a smug shitcunt beholden to Big Fuck Everything Up Forever
There is really only one set of takes on this bill that I think are valid, and it is the take provided by those who are fighting at the literal coal face every day to protect nature. Conveniently they compiled all their takes into one media release.

You should read it:

I cobbled together four photos of the same corner of via Rizzoli in Bologna, taken between the 1930s and the early 1970s. They show the evolution of road use and design in the early days of mass automobility. A pattern similar throughout the so-called developed world.

National Socialist Network member and neo-Nazi Zachary Makkinga, who works for Queensland Rail, was given a six-month suspended sentence for abhorrent racist posters in Brisbane. The magistrate called him "pathetically small-minded."

They are also intentionally conflating machine-learning and generative AI slop to confuse and try to make GenAI seem necessary. Google Maps traffic stuff is machine learning, not GenAI, for example. Auto-correct is too. Don't let them make you lose the thread. GenAI slop is slop.
the nyt posts this stuff like avoiding AI for 48 hours is hard and meanwhile i have literally never once intentionally used an AI program for anything ever

Wardell: "Society is evolving in attitudes all the time… Fringe groups are arising all the time. Case dismissed."
