I still haven’t seen a bad Christmas movie that was more crazy than 12 Pups of Christmas. It feels like the actors are aliens

existing evidence suggested that new market rate housing creates a pretty substantial amount of affordable housing automatically through vacancy chain effects; now we have evidence that it actually does that at a higher rate than new affordable housing does

Willingly signing a 10.6% APR loan to buy a $111k truck is a special kind of financial stupidity.
one of the least sympathetic microgenres of post is, "I financed an extremely expensive truck at fairly normal APRs and am paying HOW MUCH in interest?!"

my uncle is broke as shit in his 60s in large part from making this exact sort of decision multiple times

truly this will satisfy exurban NIMBYs, not only will they get a new data center, they’ll also get a completely inefficiently-sized power plant and mere miles from their cul-de-sac that just duplicates infrastructure we already have/can build
... I think Congress should pass a law that requires data centers to produce the electricity that they need to run themselves therefore, not pull from the grid directly....

So theyd be building 2 things, a way to generate power, & THEN their data center...

Evin and I planned the entire Thanksgiving cooking including compiling all the recipes and creating an entire Gantt chart and then someone who told us she wasn’t cooking decided to ruin the entire fucking thing by doing random shit she saw on a video. Isn’t family great 😅

the fact that thousands of people can die because of the misdeeds of a bureaucracy and it can simply be forgotten by everyone except information junkies like me who retain it in their heads for decades is pretty horrifying

So…Noem is going to prison for quite a long time, for many reasons, leading off with this:
The first official confirmation that Noem herself made the decision not to turn the planes around. A couple hundred men were tortured as a result — and soon after, the Supreme Court confirmed that the Trump admin’s Alien Enemies Act process was a total violation of due process.
BREAKING:

“After receiving that legal advice, Secretary Noem directed that the AEA detainees who had been removed from the United States before the Court’s order could be transferred to the custody of El Salvador. “

People who say this are probably using LLMs and ML multiple times a day to without knowing it so idk if it’s really a flex
one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

A big reason why AI summary of recipes is a thing in the first place is because every recipe website is now 100 ads, SEO slop, and the story of their life and you have to hunt for the recipe
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

Incredible that people have just memory holed that before “AI overview” there was decades of google using your data for algorithm training and only showing results that give them ad revenue
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

All this AI investment is based on growth that seemingly can’t happen because we don’t have the energy infrastructure or supply chain for it

The way that media goes all “law and order” about some things and not about others is fascinating to me
Zohran Mamdani chastised a Manhattan synagogue that hosted an event promoting migration to Israel and settlements in occupied territories. His stance further tested his strained relationship with pro-Israel Jews in New York.
