FWIW, the idea that Black women can't win competitive races is not born out by data. It's about (to borrow from Mitch McConnell) candidate quality:
-Cheri Beasley outperformed in North Carolina (but Schumer didn't fund her)
-Lucy McBath won a Trump district
-Lauren Underwood won a Trump district

I get the impulse to push back on Hegseth trying to exonerate himself by pinning it all on Bradley, but no. He's not "an apparently good man." You don't have to cravenly genuflect toward him just because he wears a uniform. He is a criminal, a cold-blooded murderer, and does not deserve any respect.
BRENNAN: Do you have confidence in Admiral Bradley?

HIMES: What it raises is what happens when an apparently good man like Admiral Bradley is placed in a context where he knows that if he countermands an order he's uncomfortable with it's very likely he'll be fired

No, they know what they are doing is wrong. They hate being called racists because they know that racism is wrong. They hate to have their crimes called out by the media because they know they are crimes. These are not people who are trying to do the right thing, these are malicious people.

I think it's important to just treat these guys as engaged in a conspiracy against the Republic and the Constitution.
What's most galling is Wurman and Barnett aren't stupid. They both know exactly how dishonest this is. Whatever their motives, and I don't really care, they're not doing scholarship in any of this. They're willful liars abusing their credentials in an aid of a lawless attack on fundamental rights.
The evidence is the text. All you have to do is read the Constitution.

At some point someone just needs to say “you are an indecent person, you are lying to cover the slaughter of defenseless men, you know you are lying, and even under the tenets of your own professed faith you will certainly burn in hell if you continue down this path”
WELKER: Isn't it possible that even the act of taking off a t shirt could've been part of an attempt to get attention for help?

TOM COTTON: Or it could've been an attempt to signal to another cartel boat to come pick them up and pick up the cargo

I don’t care if we‘re 50 percent or 49 percent or 75 percent or 25 percent: we’re on the side of the Constitution and of right.
Yglesias is brain poisoned from surrounding himself with white nationalists on Twitter. Birthright citizenship is overwhelmingly popular. Even when limited specifically to illegal immigration it still enjoys a narrow majority. Many people do not blame babies for the sins of their parents.

i'm generally of the opinion that Europe is held back by its implicit commitment to ethnic nationalism, even if they don't form actual ethnocracies. it's to America and Canada's great credit that we have citizenship rooted in the place, not the "people."

Focusing on a single incident makes it resonate with the public more. It doesn't somehow justify the other killings, it illustrates the larger problem.

The right is good at this, sometimes in bad faith. For example, Laken Riley.

Basically "one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic."
Once the debate centers on whether the 2nd strike was legal, the first 21 strikes have been accepted as baseline. But the murder of the two survivors doesn’t make the other 21 any more legal. Selective outrage, not silence, is how authoritarianism becomes normalized @tadstoermer.bsky.social

people died for birthright citizenship. i get that it’s more fun to be a pundit when your team has the white house and you get to brag to friends about visiting the oval office; but what i’m wondering is if maybe that’s actually not a good reason to throw away something we fought a civil war to win?

You could write this. Or you could write: “That notion, which has been the rule in nearly every country in the Western Hemisphere for over a century, is grounded in the language of the 14th Amendment.”

All how you choose to frame it.

Publishing all the other boat murder videos but refusing to release the one of the two survivors being killed is an admission they know exactly how bad it looks. There's no other distinction to draw there, no reason to publish the others while withholding that one.
