I guess this means I need to find a new display picture again.
How @arbitorian.bsky.social has the capacity to do his videos is beyond me. The depth of knowledge is ridiculous and I can't conceive of the work that goes into each one.

AI is, it turns out, basically good at being Google and finding information. It is bad, it turns out, at doing anything complicated with that information.

Whenever I see people say they've had deep discussions with AI and that it has helped them understand higher mysteries or some bullshit, I can't help but think that it can't handle a discussion about made up sects in Warhammer 40k and keeps getting things wrong in a deeply amusing way.

This says more about what people think these jobs are that what the reality is. It feels like people need to see a tangible output to think a role is useful in society but if you are, like me, in a role that has significant structural impacts but not tangible ones: get fucked.
🧵/ There's a clear correlation between how much a job is seen as contributing to society and whether or not the public think it is over- or underpaid

For instance, 75% of Britons see nurses as contributing a great deal to society and 74% say they're underpaid

Honestly, I don't understand the economy anymore. Everyone I know is stone cold broke but inflation remains persistent. Can someone explain what point inflation naturally curbs itself because no one can afford anything?

Should I be worried that the "we scan your face" feature of age verification seems perfectly happy that I'm over 18? Am I, at 37, no longer looking youthful?

We often think of ourselves as smarter and wiser than our predecessors, and yet, they are so often right about our present.
When I think about the stupid mistakes LLMs make with words sometimes, (cf. the strawberry problem, fabricating quotations, or mixing up terms etc.), there's a well-known Old English riddle that comes to mind.

It's more than 1,000 years old but I think it has something to tell us about AI...

A Gin Martini with a splash of Creme de Violette. Honestly, a nice subtle twist on a classic.

Sometimes you don't need fancy analysis. The thing is what it appears to be.

Steve Bannon echoing the language of Yanis Varoufakis in calling Musk a techno-feudalist is just fucking wild.

The fires in LA are horrific and the human cost will be unimaginable.

That said, the grid system looks banging ablaze.

Did everyone forget that dogecoin was originally a joke? Why is it now like 60k a coin?! It was literally a parody.

Having finally caved and bought some proper speakers for my PC I can now play video games with wet hair.

A whole new world is open to me.

If you aren't, then just know that you aren't alone in that!

I caved and got PoE2.

I also, tried STALKER 2 for like.. 2 minutes and decided that the real world was quite gloomy enough. at least in PoE I can be an angry sorceress or something, not a sad man in a wasteland.

Saw Vampire Weekend last night and was profoundly disappointed.

The gig felt slow, meandering and the audience really didn't seem that energetic.

The main shame was that there was a desire for more, A Punk got everyone going, but the band kept killing the vibe with ballads.

One year, I'll not have Arctic Monkeys at the top but that is not this year.

Also Fleetwood Mac remain the best classic rock you can get.
