It’s just that only white midwestern Americans think mayo’s a little too spicy.
it is also just simply totally inaccurate that only white midwestern americans like mayo

far as i can tell from traveling internationally a lot - the whole world, it loves mayonnaise.

"To invoke Nietzsche, the problem with Shapiro’s dives into philosophy and spirituality aren’t just that they fail to be deep. It’s that they aren’t even superficial."

Oof. Great review by @mattpolprof.bsky.social and Nathan Robinson.

As someone who’s read all of McCarthy’s work and is halfway through After Virtue I can’t recommend this great easy by @mattpolprof.bsky.social essay enough: jacobin.com/2025/08/corm...
Is Cormac McCarthy “Based”?
Legendary novelist Cormac McCarthy is often hailed by the Right as one of its own. The truth is more complicated.

Here’s a thing I’d like news outlets to distinguish as protests of the mad king continue. Property damage (graffiti) is not violence in the same sense that assault (cops beating protesters) is violence. You can’t just say a protest was violent because someone shit on the hood of a cybertruck.

I know philosophy of science isn’t in vogue, but it’s really important to understand how to tell which direction the causal arrow goes sometimes.
Although CPR has become synonymous with medical heroism, nearly 85 per cent of those who receive it in a hospital die. Why has it remained the norm?
The Hidden Harms of CPR
The brutal procedure can save lives, but only in particular cases. Why has it become a default treatment?

This obviously isn’t the most important problem with this, but the way he tents his fingers and repeats himself as if the pseudo-profound pablum he’s spewing is going make peoples’ minds blow is really irritating.
Elon Musk: "The fundamental moral flaw of the left is empathy for the criminals and not empathy for the victims."

In my opinion August and Everything After is an A+ album, Recovering the Satellites is a solid B and I’ll never listen to any other of their albums because I’m not in college anymore.

They’re calling it transubstantiation aren’t they folks? Transubstantiation. We’re transubstanting better than we ever have before. They’re saying it’s the best blood and maybe the best wine too but we’ll see about that.
I would love to hear him expound about some basic Catholic doctrine. What are his thoughts on transubstantiationism? Does he think the Holy Ghost is Casper?

The thing is, yes, we want Ebola prevention. We also want all the other things our elected representatives voted to fund. Not sure where the idea came from that we suddenly have line item veto for federal spending bills.
Musk: I should say we will make mistakes. We won't be perfect. But when we make a mistake we'll fix it quickly. So for example with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled briefly was Ebola prevention.

Doing anything that benefits anyone but billionaires is woke.
is it woke to want to end cancer?
NEW: The N.I.H. will cut about $4 Billion from federal research grants that support cancer, virus and heart disease research.

#Project2025 called for the cuts to end subsidies to "leftist" university agendas.

I get the impulse to point out the contradictions and hypocrisy- but it really just doesn’t matter. Law is power, precedent is for suckers, democracy is obsolete.
For years Trump & Vance have been telling us that America shouldn't get involved in other countries and in just the past 15 days they want to do that with Greenland, Panama, Canada, and now Gaza.

There are many, many problems with anti-DEI rhetoric, but one thing that is clear from the arguments of most of the critics of DEI efforts is that they haven’t really worked in places where it’s been implemented.
