War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength, and Censorship is Free Speech.
Meta has removed or restricted dozens of accounts belonging to abortion access providers, queer groups and reproductive health organizations in the past weeks in what campaigners call one of the “biggest waves of censorship” on its platforms in years.

And this is how you end up with Care Bears putting in free labour so that they can publish a piece in today's Der Stürmer. And telling you they're getting balanced views even as you can see them slipping far right every day.

@leaflet.pub Do I understand correctly that for a blog post to be part of leaflet, one needs to:
1. create a "publication" record with some URL
2. create "document"s records pointing at the given publication
Then there's the question of the structure and style of documents but that's the basic idea?

> Infrastructure should be separate from ideology.

Nah, infrastructure necessarily emerges from ideology.

An ideology that believes all people are created equal with innate worth and a human right to a safe and decent living creates very different infrastructure than an ideology that does not.

This post is an astute analysis by @robin.berjon.com on the two faulty mental models that keep reasonable people on X and other comparable social media. The essence? Digital spaces work differently than physical spaces.
2025 is coming to end and some people who claim not to be fascists are still associating themselves with fascist outlets like X.

I claim, perhaps charitably, that it's because they don't understand how the internet works. Either way, this needs to change.

i think people seem to still be under the impression that corporations are seeking to achieve profitability when they are instead searching desperately for ways to further precaritize labor
Its the same thing as "hmm is Cloud the natural endpoint of computing or is it a ludicrously profitable model of computing that was able to pay for an enormous amount of developer and lawyer labor hours to smooth the path of entrapment and crush alternatives"

I wanted dinner recommendations so I scraped 13,000+ London restaurants and accidentally discovered Google Maps is running a shadow economy. Anyway here's a dashboard and a political economy thesis: open.substack.com/pub/laurenle...
How Google Maps quietly allocates survival across London’s restaurants - and how I built a dashboard to see through it
I wanted a dinner recommendation and got a research agenda instead. Using 13000+ restaurants, I rebuild its ratings with machine learning and map how algorithmic visibility actually distributes power.

What defines a correct program? What education makes a good programmer? The answer depends on what culture of programming you subscribe to!

Europe invented nation states, a concept it exported, often through brute force, to the entire world.
Now is probably the best time for Europe to invent new forms of large scale collectives, ones that would be both open and protective, respectful of individuals yet mindful of collective interest.

Another great article by @sophieintveld.bsky.social “In these times of tectonic geopolitical shifts, there is an urgent need for public debate about the role and future of the European Union, and the reforms needed to make it resilient in today’s turbulent world.”
Europeans are better informed about US politics than about their own. If pro-European forces are silent, the void will be filled by Trump, Musk, Putin, and their useful idiots in Europe. No Democracy Shield can protect us then. Time to talk EU. My blog:

Strong article by @sophieintveld.bsky.social — “He fears the moment Europeans will realise their own strength and believe in a different Europe. Our best security strategy is the power of imagination.”
Trumps biggest fear is a strong, federal Europe. Politicians in Europe who echo his narrative are his useful idiots. Let's stop dreaming about a return to the past, let's start imagining the future! Europe can be a giant, strong and independent. Read my blog 👇 open.substack.com/pub/sophiein...
