"People have got lots of competing demands with limited resource - financial resource, family support resource, relationships resource etc. And it's whether people are actually struggling to survive at that time, that's really what is driving missingness" Andrea Williamson, @uofgshw.bsky.social
November 19, 2025 at 1:03 PM
"Past experiences of healthcare are really important. Each contact a person has with the NHS really drives whether people will feel able to use the NHS the next time" Andrea Williamson, @uofgshw.bsky.social

"The biggest issues that we have are people not understanding what the appointment is for, when the appointment is and where it'll take place" Caroline Norman, @refugeecouncil.bsky.social

"We define 'missingness' as the repeated tendency not to take up offers of care, such that it has a negative impact on the person and their life circumstances." Andrea Williamson, @uofgshw.bsky.social

"Missed appointments are often closely linked to health inequalities. Patients from marginalised groups are more likely to miss their appointments, including people with disabilities, or have English as a second language" @sarahtilsed.bsky.social

Patients should continue to come forward for care during the five-days of strike action, but many will feel the impact. Behind every cancelled appointment is someone waiting in pain and uncertainty. We’re urging the BMA and government to enter independent arbitration immediately
